It just a switch and something you can hold or just press comfortably. I prefer foot switch myself.

Yes I thought of using either an Atari Joystick or a Sega controller .I ended up with a horn button.I shall give it a go very soon .Google something along the lines of "arcade game button" for more options.
That's great ! I will have to look for one thanks !Here's another cheap suggestion, use a digital piano sustain pedal. The cheap ones are square and small in size. These are just the right size to sit on the desktop or you can try it as a footswitch to see if you like using it in that manner.
These switches are spring loaded non latching momentary on and have a 1/4 in. plug ready to go if you have a Heil mic cable with PTT pigtail, or rig one up yourself of course.
You can buy these pedals locally at music stores and online for $15 or less.

Great ideas ! Thanks !Does it have to be handheld? If so a small hand mic from a compact radio will work. Fire a relay with it if necessary. Maybe a remote starter button like this one. Amazon product ASIN B0009XQUKW
How about a cw key on the desk? I know a guy that had a foot switch with light spring he sat on the desk and keyed with his hand. He had bad knees and hips so it was easier for him that way.
