Hooker 100 bilinear

Pretty sure that one uses RF transistors that mount by a threaded stud that pokes out the underside of the heat sink, each secured by a nut on the outside.

That one is famously prone to fail from excess drive wattage, or high antenna SWR. Clobbers the two RF power transistors.

Finding replacements for the stud-mount transistors is doable, but expensive. The opening in the circuit board is too small to substitute more-modern flange-mount RF transistors.

The problem could have another cause, but the odds don't favor it.

If the transistors are bad I'd have nothing no output at all. So why does it have through put as in I get power out as in the stock radio power? I know all about the stud mount transistors as I have dealt with them before and I have some in my parts box. I'm just trying to figure out why the radio transmits through it with no amplification.

If it's exactly the same, I'd have to guess the relay doesn't actuate when you key the mike.

If you can see the relay armature click over when you key the mike, that means the transistors are getting the radio's drive power and putting out exactly the same power the radio feeds into them.

Other parts could fail besides the transistors, But if they are 90 percent dead, you could possibly see no change in wattage.

Would be a rare thing to see. Not every failed RF power transistor will be totally dead. They can fail partway. Just not terribly often.
