I agree with Frank, Bill Good was the ONLY person that I have ever met that ever knew what he was REALLY doing on these radios. Myself, personally, I had one of the original 2950's for 3 days, and got rid of it, in 1992. The only reason it took 3 days is because I found a buyer, and had to wait a couple days for him to come down and pay for the radio. I will disagree and agree on the new ones. Frank has VERY valid points as far as the displays go. A major pain. However, I di like the electronic design alot better. (if that tells you anything, they are surface mounted components, and I STILL like them better) I never cared for the original design of the 2950, there were just too many things that didn't add up. It's almost like (this is just an assumption, not known fact) that they wanted to design a good radio, but that there were maybe teams that would do each part, then the parts of the radio or sections, rather were incompatible, so they would use some work around. And what's up with dual VCOs?? Then you have the CPU (that always fails at one time or another) that controls each of these VCOs with their own frequency stepping. It becomes a chaotic "quirky" nightmare, from a repair perspective. Any ways, that's just my opinion.
