How to shoot skip

I talked all over the world with my IMAX infamously ten feet off the ground, my uniden Madison/silver eagle, and about 300 watts. I prefer SSB. And enjoy making contacts above channel 40. 36, 37, 39 and 40 are good substitutes for 38. Unless you wanna experience what it feels like to be a patient at your local crazy house. On AM 28 is OK. 73

nat19,
You asked the question how to talk "skip"?

Well, with enough power anyone can talk "skip", but a good antenna is the best source.
Listen a lot - learn to have good "conversational skills", you will have more people wanting to call you from all different parts of the world, if, you are good in speaking.

Two years ago, I heard a operator make a call from Indonesia for DX. I keyed the mic and said "hello Aire". That operator responded back by calling out my first name and my call sign...boy was I ever surprised, for the last time that we had ever talked was 16 years ago! But he remembered who I was by the way that I talked on the radio.

If you can listen a lot to how "general class" ham operators talk, you will see that most of them are very skilled in how they communicate - so remember that old saying; "listen to the wise"!

yup just listen to the brothers on ch 7 and ch 19 they got the conversational skills mastered .. they be shooting the big skip !! xxx

Its may 2019. This skip guy said he was gonna be here so we could all shoot him.
Welcome!
The predictions for this cycle are all over the place. Some predictions say that this cycle won't be very big. While I am waiting around for skip to show up, I am getting my station in order and my mind keeps wandering towards a beam install. I can catch some skip but it is very sporadic and only lasts a few minuets at a time.

Roger that!

I caught some skip rolling through today sitting in my driveway.

I live in cleveland, and made contacts in alabama, and the other side of ohio.

If you decide to get a beam they sure do work well. Theres a few guys out by me that have them and they pick far away stations out at will.

If you really want to talk skip and have more fun than frustration pick up a single sideband (SSB) radio. 100 times easier to talk skip and it's a whole different crowd of people.
yes, even my 980 sdb shoots skip in my A99 well.or i turn on my galaxy 99v and let the stars lite up. L9ng dx work8ng isveasy 12 w pep goes far

Well the beginning of this week. I legit bagged 76 contacts (now saying NY770 since I moved up here to the Catskills). Mostly FL, TN, SC, NC, KY, and some Indiana, Ohio, Iowa, and Missouri.

I agree on speech and tone.. saying Catskills NY had better results then just saying NY..

The Ranger 296 maybe gave me a better tone than the Ranger 2950CD, but I dunno. The A99 is 40' to the 'tip'..
