194, a CLR2 was the first base station antenna I ever owned. Before that I only worked mobile setups. When I got my CLR2 it was used and I did not get a manual.
The other day someone posted a link to the manual for the CLR2 and I read it. I was surprised at the claims made in the description for how this one works: see page 2 below.

There was far more than Hy Gain making misleading claims in those days Eddie, Avanti and Antenna Specialists were guilty too as are many nowadays,Sirio are still claiming the vector 4000 is a 3/4 wave j pole.:headbang, maybe Masterchief has a new job in Sirio's catalogue/PR dept, lol.
Anyway i just got confirmation that 2 N.O.S CLR 2'S are enroute to moi, can't believe i missed the Penetrators, but hey ho, shit happens, Was one of the few antennas i never had so looking forward to getting them, i rarely run more than 100w :tongue: lol so shouldn't be a problem, got another iron in the fire too, but still waiting to hear back on that one, I'm sure the CLR 2's will do the job just fine.
Can't help wondering if council would let me away with putting both up and cophasing them,lol. tbh, I don't think their going to be too happy with 1 nevermind 2 but hopefully I'll get at least one up, will leave my sirio tornado free for going up the hills with once i get hold of a decent 20ft telescopic mast, not that i really need to take big antennas as the hills here are pretty decent height and the hp4000 with amp covers the globe anyway.
Had a nice surprise this morning, nice UPS man just dropped off 2 x CLR2 N.O.S antennas. Many thanks to Andre in the Netherlands, can't wait till my next surprise arrives, sure you'll love that one Eddie, one of your favourite if not your favourite antenna.
Jazz, to be fair it is one of my favorites.
I just had my grandson take my favorite antenna down after about 3 years. With time and wind, the radial support system failed.
It was a NOS I had saved back, and never used. I did notice the hub portion that goes over the mast to support the radials was poorly made in that antenna kit, but I decided to put it up. At that time I wasn't in such poor health, and I thought I'll put it up anyway. That was my last Starduster.
With my SDr's I could talk to anybody out if the distance that my nearby local buds could, excepting maybe when they were working a beam. Sometimes I could even read signals that were just static in the ears of my local buds.

Hi Eddie, yeah I'm delighted, a little bit of cb history, got another couple of deals lined up but will keep a surprise till I receive them, one is very very special, something I've never had but been after a long time and like the CLR2's is unopened, the other ain't quite a Starduster but close, I would kill for an original antenna specialist starduster m400 or even the m800 I believe it was, there's a few antennas I'd like to own, I missed the penetrators sadly as was unwell and wasn't on net much, but I'll make up for that disappointment, the CLR2's go a long way towards it but the next one always had me baffled. Much the same as the way the Starduster is so underrated, god only knows why, its a superb antenna and a lot more robust than people think, even though its thin it doesn't get the windload broader antennas suffer.
Back in the day there was so much quality to choose from, was looking at a Hy gain advert on CB Tricks earlier, the penetrator and CLR prices astounded me in the states, they were never that low here, super penetrator and golden CLR2 look interesting as did a few others. Not all reached our shores, I'd have loved a Ham International Big Mac but sadly was out my price range the day I chose between that,a mighty magnum 3, a starduster, sigma 4 and a HY Gain Silver Rod,
as I was replacing an avanti sigma 4 I wasn't too keen on another one as this one was planned to go on a chimney with a 3 element beam and rotator installed afterwards, I'd had a starduster clone which was excellent but not really suitable for the beam underneath, I was instictively drawn to the Mighty Magnum 3 as I really wasn't overly impressed with short curved radials of silver rod and the price was right,
I had one of the first ones in Glasgow and was soon copied when people saw my signal, it was a phenomenal antenna but was prone to rising swr when rain was about, although back then I had a shakespeare defender ts1 atu, which was the one to have here at the time,
especially as had built in 2 way antenna switch which I needed for loft dipole I had and impending beam I was about to put up pending a bit of wheeling and dealing, was a lot of money to be made repairing and reselling cb's in Glasgow back then and not many could do it,
I was lucky, my mates Dad, my mentor was probably the best tech this city ever seen, and I learned fast when young, plus he had a KW amp and 45m for us to play with via a Yaesu Ft7b that was recrystalled and a Cobra 148 GTL DX mk2, he got me my first Cobra 148 and a sigma 4 too at very good prices at time, I remember walking about a mile across our area with a sigma 4 in 2 pieces to save us the hassle of rebuilding it, lol.Got some strange looks that day, lol.
The first time I heard him talk to the states I was hooked on antennas and power, lol, I had a president Ar7 and DV27 at the time, I struggled to get over the local pond nevermind the Atlantic, That wasn't going to be the case for long, that I was determined off, I considered Germany, Netherlands,France and Belgium as local contacts months later, and have taken it for granted ever since, I moved from dv27 to dipole to sigma 4 in months, then the magnum followed by the beam and still waasn't even 16, my back up radio was a european export 80 ch stalker 9 or 1X, the one with FM on it, but not the UKFM model that came later, I actually made my first contact on the stalker and dipole into Albacete in Spain on 12w, despite having no joy with the Cobra for a few weeks before, The summer sporadic E had just opened up that day, I was hooked, and have been ever since, I've never been that interested in local CB since although I did go on when SSB was dead or when looking for puff, lol. TBH Eddie, I haven't opened them and might never, If I do get planning permission to put 1 up at least I will let you know, sorry my conscience just can't deal with it just now, I have to think hard what I want to do with them
its been sealed since at least the early 80's, I'm very reluctant to open them, even if I just keep them for nostalgia, I have a Sirio Tornado I can throw up to get smashed up, so makes risking a classic a very risky proposition. They are staple sealed unlike most modern antennas which I'd happily rip open.
Going by manual on CB tricks base pole M1 part no 190920 is 47" x 11/4" diameter, I estimate the base insulator/coil holder to be about 1- 2" maximum,going by its ratio to the base mounting plate.
Hope that helps, sorry I can't be more specific just now, but the minute I open one I'll let you know to the nearest micron.I will also watch out for anyone putting one up over here and ask them to measure it or ask dealer if he can shed light on it, I know there's been a number sold and was a few left last night. He may even ship to US if you ask him, I don't know how far he will ship as I saw it on E bay uk and only got UK rates. Antenna was 60 euro if I recall and shipping from Netherlands 32.50 euro's each, a very fair price considering what it is. I just checked US rates $81.94 dollars for antenna and half that again shipping as its the same 32.50 euro $44.38 shipping so your looking about 120 odd dollars shipped to USA. Item number is 321405825207
That was only tip of iceberg of my life, lol, I got enough shit in it to outdo encyclopedia britannica or take out 20 titanics and I'm only 46, llf.

I understand the intact package is part of the value in NOS items. I thought you got two so you could consider co-phasing them, and I figured you were going to use one to replace another antenna you had up.
I guess we all have some stories we could tell, and your stories are always colorful.

You're right, 190920 at 47" x 1.25" is the part I was looking for... instead of the base assembly.

Well Jazz, if I did my new dimensions take-off for the CLR2 right, I'm getting an overall length of 230" = 19' 2"...using the information in the manual for part #190920. However, the specs show the overall height is 238" which = 19' 10". This is why I posted earlier I had my overall length for #190920 = 55" inches and wanted someone to give me a better dimension.

Maybe the 19' 10" overall length is the longest tunable length possible. The kit won't go any longer. HyGain does not look to me to give much extra tubing in their beams that I have either. The CLR was probably setup as a 23 channel antenna kit back in those days and that should provide for a longer radiator.
If and when you ever do install one, maybe you can get me some better dimensions at resonance for the CLR2...so I can fix my model.
8" of difference will probably make a notable difference. I cannot do a bandwidth curve on such an antenna, because the match and reactance will show to be NO good...so I won't be able to check for resonance on the model.
