I grew up in Green bay, Wisconsin and we always heard jokes about how things were "up dare in da UP"
LOL!! That explains why your Oklahoma accent is a little bit different. I thought you might have been an Army brat. My brother sounds like an Army brat and we grew up around this area. Maybe I just talk lazyI grew up in Green bay, Wisconsin and we always heard jokes about how things were "up dare in da UP"
Camp Grayling is not in the UP. It's downstate at grayling, michigan in Crawford County. We used to have K.I. Sawyer up here.Greg T's post brought back a memory.
After 6 years in Vietnam, I was activated for 3 months to serve as an evaluator for the Michigan, Illinois, and Indiana National guard at their summer training camps at Camp Grayling Michigan. Camp Grayling is in the Michigan UP. June thru August 1973. Reminded me of 'Nam as it rained all the time. Hot and humid (when it wasn't raining) and cold as Alaska at night. So many mosquitos that the place was always buzzing with them.
Not a fond memory.

Mostly skeeters, if it's warm enough. That's about it.I heard UP has a lot of biting bugs during summer.
That reminds me of the time I spent in Thailand during the Monsoon season. Nothing like laying in a damp bunk. I sure don't miss that place or seeing them eat Rice Bugs live. LOLReminded me of 'Nam as it rained all the time. Hot and humid
