Is it really necessary?

Anyway, I was wondering how many operators have owned/tried the external muffin fans or some other method of cooling on their 7000's.

I am suprised that they run so hot, even if only receiving. I suspect the engineers that designed the rig know what they are doing.

I just got my 7000 from HRO and it came with a 2 year warranty during a current promotion, so I am not to worried yet.

Just wondering if it's worth the time and effort to add a fan.

If your radio is getting that hot then adding a fan would be (imo) cheap insurance. It seems like it's hit and miss with the running hot issue. I've read of others having a problem, but the temp gauge on my 7000 has never run in the red. I know a couple locals that also run the 7000 and they have never had a problem either. If you do put a fan on it you may want to consider a brushless type and a couple wraps of the power leads around a ferrite bead to eliminate the possibilty of fan noise in your receive.

Same here, my 7000 never gets into the red even when I am into a long
QSO. It does feel quite hot, but, it does have a large heatsink. It shouldn't
have problems.
If it makes you feel better, direct a small fan on it. Just be sure it's not
blowing against the internal fan when it kicks on. (mine rarely comes on)
Otherwise a very great radio.

some 7k's run hot,..... some don't:confused:

excess heat WILL destroy electronic parts.

there is a well documented fan mod for the 7K

I will not be there but hopefully by the end of this month I will have my New tower and antennas back in the air including my M2 6M5X. The old tower and all of my antennas came down in October 2023 during a Hurricane.
