Icom IC-7300 HF Transceiver Review

im just going to send it back. i thought i was upgrading from the ts200.
this icom was a big disappointment. think ill get the 991a

I don't think the mfj grand master meter is an actual PEP meter, you need a meter that is powered to measure PEP,, the only thing the power connector is for on that mfj meter is for the back light on the meter

Hmm, mine pegs my ldg m-1000 meter at the 100 watt peak reading scale.

Not familiar with the mfj grandmaster.

i also have my mfj auto tuner with the peak hold on the tuner.
its a true pep meter. i get over 100 watts on my kenwood ts 2000
and my 450d solid 100 watts on both. this icom 35 watts on peak.

I am not familiar with the above posted procedure to go into technician service mode.
I go into service mode according to the factory service manual procedure.
It is very easy to do following the manual procedure. You should have the service manual in front of you when doing this so as to be able to follow the procedure and not mess up the settings of the radio.
You should also have a very capable and accurate power measurement meter.
The 7300 is very capable of delivering the output power that is advertised.

Let's talk microphones. What are you guys using?

I have two Heil microphones that I use.
Heil PR40 ....... great microphone
Heil ICM microphone made specifically for Icom radios only.
I assure you that the Heil ICM microphone will wake up your 7300, or any other Icom. At 30% rf power setting, and 10% mic gain setting, my 7300 will output about 75 watts plus on SSB.
I use the Heil ICM microphone most of the time.

I also have the Icom SM50 microphone. This is a very good microphone also. It is also like a power desk microphone. But I do prefer the boom mic so I can kick back.

Nice. I too use a Heil pr40 but I'm thinking I should have just gone straight to an Electrovoice re20.

Thanks for the ICM and SM50 report.

If anyone is interested in that Heil ICM do a little homework before buying one. It was specifically designed to work with a mic audio circuit that is very common in Icom radios but to the best of my knowledge not all Icoms use this circuit, if you're considering one I would double check to make sure yours is one of the Icoms that the mic is suited for.

Note I'm not a ham so don't take me as an authority on this stuff, this is just a bit of info I found while researching these mics when a used one came up for sale locally.

Okay, good info.
But since this thread is about the Icom 7300 Transceiver reviews, my posting on the Heil ICM microphone for this radio is spot on.
For folks who are experiencing the low power output on their new 7300's, short of putting the radio into the technician service mode and adjusting the power output capabilities, the Heil ICM microphone will drive the transceiver very well.

funny thing is my kenwood does 100 watts on ssb same with the 450d using the same meter. so why the low output on ssb with the icom. i dont care about am as i never use am
