If a radio can sense when SWR is TOO high then why can't it show me the SWR reading??

Beats me why they don't include that but I do not know of any VHF/UHF radio that does have a built in SWR meter. Only ones I have seen are on HF and a couple of older VHF/UHF base radios.

I think the icom706mkii has a meter, digital of course, but it is a shack in a box hf and vhf.

Only works on HF.

Hmmmm....that made me think. I just checked my Yaesu FT-857D. The digital SWR meter works on all bands including 2m and 70cm. I have the LDG FT-METER external meter so it is even nicer than the tiny little digital thing. I usually have the external meter set to read TX power however and just check the SWR on the radio`s display.
