Imax 2000 only 7' off ground??

K3ACZ , No problems with running an A-99 . Iv'e used them for many years , until we had a tree taken down close by it would bounce off the branches on a windy day . I never had a problem getting out . Iv'e chatted world wide on it during the last good cycle . When it needs replacing I'm going to buy an Imax only because for a little more I personally just want to upgrade . A-99's are a great antenna it's been through a few hurricanes and Nor Easter's here on the East Coast . Mine is 48' to the tip and I'm on a hill almost 800' above sea level .:)

I'm at 1682' in a mobile development with lots of trees in the Poconos.. Zoro shipped the Imax this morning before I could cancel it.. ughh..

They said I could get a free call tag to send it back..

So torn here.. I would love to keep it.. but the winds kick here.. maybe 60-70 on occasion.. and the point is discreet so it's not seen.. the whipping of the bigger Imax I think might draw attention..

I'm going to put up my mast to 17' which is 7 over my roof line and just wait to see if it's noticed.. before installing any antrnna..

Welcome to the club my Imax is only 15' or so to the base.

I have a 140' doublet up 40' feet or so. Antenna modeling shows it to be the perfect height for vary usable lobes from 80-20 meter bands. Looks how hard the 12 gauge wires are to see. You can easily use thinner gauge wires and a more discrete antenna connection, against those trees people would have a really hard time seeing it.

I give up on the picture. Every other picture I linked worked but this one. I even deleted it and uploaded it again. As you can see its just above the roof line (hyperlinked it).

Years ago we had local CB competitions where we would drive up to the highest hilltop we could find and host a keydown (we called them stomps). Many of us would take a A99 or Imax and a 10' pole. That setup worked and was better than the old 102" whip but the guys who figured out mobile beams usually took the win. Never any issues with the A99 or Imax on the trailer hitch......

Finally after calling 3x and screaming Zoro got the Imax turned around with UPS and sent back to them without having to receive and send back..

A99 in route.. waiting sucks..

Debating on putting McKinley in house with kicker or just grab a Cobra 29 and a kicker (like a TNT 350) and run the A99..??

I worked some dx all over on a Silver Eagle 350 and a Ranger 6300F25. If you have an rfi or tvi issues don’t hesitate to put a choke or Ugly Balun to counter. They work well.

Joe Dirt , Looking @ your pic of the antenna on the chimney , Do the bricks where the mounts are need repointing ? The reason I ask is one windy day my father-in-laws came crashing down because of it . Needless to say when it when back up my Mother-in-law made him use a tripod . Just asking , 73 and God Bless , Leo

I never suggest a chimney mount. Long term vibrations from the wind can crack the mortar and then even the bricks themselves. It's not the short term high speed gusts as much as the loooong term low vibrations.

Funny this post is up . My friend had tree cutters a few days ago put his Imax 70' to the base of antenna in a pine tree ! They left he never checked it when they were there now ...he thinks he has a bad solder joint 70' in the air ! Oh well check , check and recheck !jmo:whistle:

Wait a minute, I can get tree trimmers to come put my A99 in the top of a pine?

I’ll be back, I’m going to start calling some tree trimmers...
