^^^ Qst magazine had an article about this a few months back if I recall. The folks who tested the effectiveness of antennas near trees concluded the trees do in fact hinder the signal.
I was interested in this article because I live under a canopy of trees over a hundred feet high. Surprisingly I still work DX and local just fine with a Imax 2000 50 feet up.
