I know these type questions are asked a zillion times and I happen to be one of those zillion operators who ask it. Ok, I know it is said that one can mount a Imax 2000 above a beam like a Maco 3 or 4 but I wanted to mount one above my Mosley 33 JR. I did not know if it made a difference being that the JR has traps and in a 20,15 and 10 meter beam. I emailed the tech department at Mosey about this and they said this:

Dear Roger,

The 27 MHz frequency is too close to 10 meters that I cannot say for sure what the Imax will do to the JR. I would advise finding a different installation for the Imax.

Regards,

Tim

What do you all think, Should I try it or not?

Yes I will go for it. I hope it works, I realy do not have any place else to mount the Imax unless my wife lets me put up another tower. Like that will happen lol.

If such installations have no effect on other 11m beams I doubt it would affect a 10m antenna. I suspect the company said what they did in case you experience any problems in the future with the beams pattern and they don't want to be on record as having said nothing would happen. Hundreds if not thousands of people have installed such antennas in this manner without ill effect.

I am going to try it without the Imax then with it and see if there are negitive changes. I got another email from Mosley tech saying it can be done but with the Imax needs to have 10 to 12 feet seperation.

I mounted my IMAX2000 above the TA-33 and had no ill effects that I know of.

I did mount it 12' above the yagi, would have mounted it higher but did not have any more mast pipe at the time.

not really sure why the mosley tech would even think that the 10m/11m horizontal/vertical would have any affect on the other. the yagi should act as a ground plane underneath the imax. the imax should not have any affect on the traps on the yagi which is operated in the horizontal plane, as opposed to the vertical imax, and should not interfere at all with the operation of the yagi, on any band.
now if you were to actually test that setup in the field, you MAY notice slightly skewed patterns, but by no means enough to have any noticeable affect on performance on 10-20m.
with the winter weather we've been having, i'd expect to see everything up & running by the end of the weekend ;-)

It is funny that I do not have it up and running yet this winter, We had nothing but good weather most of it and I do not have any real good excuses why it is not up and running.

I am lazy hear of late.LOL.

The only thing that I could imagine having bad effects might be due to the fact that, I believe this Mosley probably uses a direct feed to a suitably well balanced design, and such balance might be disrupted somehow with the Imax too close by. I'm not sure how Mosley is able to do direct feed with their antennas and get a good match, but if true, such results should show up in the match I would think, and be fairly easy to detect with the match or in the bandwidth.

Otherwise, I doubt it would be any different than others with similar setups.

I think you're doing this the right way, by testing the Mosley first by itself.

Good luck and keep us posted.

I still think it is because of not wanting to go out on a limb and give the go-ahead and then find out the there was some sort of interaction that the customer bitches about claiming that the company said it would be fine. Nothing personal about this exact case mind you, but look at things from Mosely's end. Not all people are reasonable enough to NOT go after the company for saying all would be fine and then find the pattern is skewed or the match was upset. One word: LIABILITY.

I have the IMAX2000 mounted above the Mosley PRO67B now at the GA QTH. works fine and I have not noticed any pattern skew that I can pin point.

What ever direction I point it at is where the pattern goes.
