In search of Palomar SL41

Nice part about the 575 is the tone control, no matter what your voice sounded like you could usually find a setting that would make it sound good on the air. I know people who didn't exactly have a voice for radio and the 575 was a real problem solver for them.

For me I always got good reports using an old RK56. This is why I would be interested in the SL41, I've seen comparisons done where to my ear they do sound fairly similar and with the way the RK56 went down the toilet a good substitute would be a good thing. Unfortunately I didn't come across these comparisons until after the SL41 became unobtainium so I couldn't actually try one.

The same mic isn't going to work for everyone, I consider having options available so everyone can find something that works for them a good thing even if I don't need most of them. To be honest I have a 575 around here someplace that I haven't used in decades, that doesn't make it useless.

if someone offered you an Astatic 575 would you turn it down?
The interesting thing is the Palomar sl41 is virtually identical to the astatic 575 minus the convenient controls outside the case of the microphone. You can internally adjust the width of the frequency response as well as the output level. Adjusted correctly it should make everyone happy

I considered buying one when they’d first showed up. Saw one at Walcott CB, but passed on it. Late 2015?

Stopped in Wildwood, FL yesterday. Chrome shop and a CB Shop. Trucker catnip.

Had a dusty NIB SL41 in the display case. “You want that? (an air of disbelief). Knocked it down to $40 without my asking.

Spent on a few other items.

Sat/Sun aren’t days with much on air coming out of that death trap called Florida, so no reports. The rig is temporary, from most components to antenna location. Waiting for Clays to get the 579 Pete motor mounts done.

Though it sounds good when I engage talkback. “Clean”

Thx for the reports this forum.

What's the street value on these things? I made a little money on my rf limited cr557 and 2018 echo mics. Is the sl41 going to be a winner after all?

I believe earlier in this thread I mentioned the notify me thing, it means out of stock. They’re gone unless you find one NOS or used and Avera does (or did) have them but they are costly.

I was northbound. Turned left and it was on left. Those two shops plus a service company all in one big building a short distance down block. Private parking. Free first two hours.

Try that Burger Joint. But be careful, when the waitress brings that burger....mine was delivered, place in front of me, and she sat down with my burger between her thighs. Um, this was a totally nude burger joint......:sneaky::sneaky::love:. My mind was derailed from eating, but after the waitress left I eventually was able to lock onto a dammed good burger.
