Well come on tell us a little more than that, quit teasing like that. Shit that there is above and beyond me. Do you think that I could maybe run my 2K from that sub station and get my name called? Hell with my 2K you could shut down 14 out of 16 Alternators and save all the headache and coin it would cost to run all those.
I would like to see pictures of the motor that powers all those when you go to drop the Hammer. Maybe a 4.25 Cat Engine might be able to do it with out killing the engine and burning up the Turbo. I can't see any Gas Burner going to be much help. That would be like running my 2K off that system, not cool.
I will say this though that is a sweet set up and someone was pretty creative in the design of it all, now I would like to see the rest of it all so I can be able to tell if all those Alternators are gutted and hollow out and all show and no go.

Cotton Mouth is right. Not even a big block is going to develop the torque required to turn 16 of them alternators under any significant load. I've seen a built 454 snap it's harmonic balancer right off the front of the crankshaft from spinning 7 of them at full load. To give you some idea of the torque needed, the 454 made over 500 foot pounds and 500 horsepower. The motor struggled to build up 3400 RPM in park with the throttle floored! Then the balancer snapped off. How do you think that 1 inch shaft spinning 8 in the pic is going to compare to the big block crank?
If you didn't mention this was for car audio I was leaning towards thinking someone spent a lot of time in PhotoShop. It could work for an audio amp since there is no carrier. The load audio amps draw is more like a SSB transmitter. It only comes on hard when there are audio peaks or bass reproduction. Even then the load is only for a short period of time. Giving the electrical system time to recover. This is why they can use things like big capacitors to store energy effectively.
The load required to produce something beyond a 10 KW carrier is quite different. The large carrier alone presents a heavy current draw even before modulation conditions. In a DC system the alternators are set to charge at a higher voltage then the batteries. This makes the alternators do most of the work under load if they are big enough to hold the voltage. In an AC system the capacitors can do little more then filter out AC hum. They will not be able to store significant energy beyond filtering and that again means the alternators are doing all the work.

Note: This is a mixture of before and after pics. This amp was rebuilt by a ham operator. He claimed to improve IMD products by changing a few things inside the amp. He also claimed that this amp would perform better IMD wise than a henry SS750 on 11 meters.
