That would be a good work around for the encoder issues all these radios seem to eventually have. Hopefully someone will do a how to.
Not something I think I'd want but I'll give the guy props for a clever hack. Looks like his mod is wired in parallel to the mic up/down buttons. But I could be wrong about that, wouldn't be the first time.

@ AWP:Is it possible to be on a lake and have a homing directional beam being emitted from the shore so a person could navigate to that beam's source? For example at night to a jetty.
