I bought 1 of these today, possibly a 2nd to combine to do 90-100 amps... Anybody ever used one? I'm excited about receiving it.. but don't know much about it.. What kind of results have you guys had?

Thanks,
Josh

I do not have the 55 amp supply..

i do however have their 45 amp supply and have been using it for about 2 years..

they do either 13.4 or 14.2 amps..
made very well indeed..

you made a good choice..
i might buy their larger 90 amp supply and or anothger 45 amp supply..

you will like it

I have had a DLS 90 for several years of continious use and it still runs great and is so quite you don't even know it is there. You may notice some current draw down under a real load since it is a switching supply, so don't try to run a high demand device with it if it will test the limits.

Thanks for the replies.

They came in and I currently have 2 wired up to a 4 pill 2879's, and it really doesn't seem to bother it.. fans don't even come on. Don't know if that's just because I'm not talking long enough to get them hot or what. Works well.

Do you think a deep cycle battery wired in will run a 6 pill? My 2 pill driver is on a separate pyramid power supply.

How many amps do you think these combined are putting out? I know there are some losses.

Can I add a 3rd? I do have access to a 2x8, if I could spend $125 to get another one used and wire it up with a deep cycle.. and run the 2x8, i'd be sure enough worldwide then.

Thanks,
Josh

Adding a deep cycle battery will alow you to draw more than the power supplies will supply but only for short durations so as long as you dont key down for a long time it will work. Also you can wire those power supplies in paralell like you mentioned to increase amperage.

I have them wired in parallel.. hot/hot, ground/ground.. should be doing 14.x volts at 110amps, but I know there are some losses when combining.

Out of curiosity, does anybody know how to mod the voltage up to 15+ on these things? I've heard you can do it.

Thanks,
Josh

I bought one a few months ago off of e-bay, shipping was slow but the power supply itself works just fine...

I inquired as to why the shipping was so slow and got a smart azz reply telling me to be patient it takes time to process the order... :?

Just an update, I love these things.

I ran a 2x4 off just one with a battery and was doing a 800-900 peak watts with no signs of too much draw.

I have 3 of them right now, and I'm putting a 2x8 on them tomorrow and giving it a whirl. The Starduster ain't going to like that too much ;)

I put 2 of mine for sale in the forum swapshop and I'm going to just run the 2x4 on one in my apt... I'll letcha know how the iota's like the 2x8.

Peace,
Josh

Josh, if your fans are not coming on, then you need to check them both out. I have had three and on two I had to adjust the clearance of the fan blades to make work. The fans probably should run at times even with no load on it.

Yeah.. I've had about 7 of them now, and none of them had the fan come unless drawing a load, I will check into the new one I'm getting tomorrow.

2x8 ran with 2 iota's and one 800 cca deep cycle battery in the house for a test, and it'd last about 15 seconds before major voltage drop (too dangerous levels). So, we took it out and put it out back in the truck and have since upgraded to 2 1300cca deka batteries, and will be re-testing.

Peace,
Josh

Mister heat,

Should run it no prob with a nice battery.. might get close to full output without it. Hard to say without trying it..with a battery it would definately run all day long.. probably run with 1 just fine honestly.

I run mine hot/hot, ground/ground into a gray quick disconnect.

Test today was 2 1300cca deka batteries with a 6x2879 fatboy, being driven by a plug in the wall davemade 2x2290. 1 55 amp Iota charging. It did fair. Slight power/voltage drop after extended conversations.. but not too bad.

Definately need 2 iota's for 6 pills-8 pills.

Peace,
Josh
