Is it possible to add an iPod jack to a CB radio?

Here's the skinny....my pick up truck came from the factory as a radio delete model. Meaning it didn't come with any speakers, radio or even an antenna.

I do listen to music but just my iPod. I don't listen to the radio that often.

I was wondering if it's possible to install an iPod jack on the CB radio and have it tie into the microphone circuit?

The idea is if I wanted to listen to my iPod I could plug it into the radio and the sound feed thru the mic circuit, then I could flip the radio on to PA mode, and have my external speaker plugged into the PA jack....and therefore listen to my iPod thru the PA system on the CB.

The CB's PA system would act as an amplifier, since most iPods don't put out much power to run anything other than ear buds.

Has anyone tried this?

Thanks in advance.

I honestly don't know why you would want to - considering the crappy audio you get out of any radio.

Don't they make a portable audio docking station for the iPod?

I mean; if you want decent sound anyway . . .

Besides, because there isn't any OEM speakers/radio in the car; doesn't this give you the choice of what speakers/audio that you WANT to put in?

I will agree with Robb on this one. CB Radios in general are really only good for voice.

If you still went this route though, MY first question how would you be able to listen to radio and IPod at the same time? That would seem difficult to me. But at the same time I see your problem with earbuds in your ear; how ya gonna listen to the radio?

What I did, and I was in kinda your situation, people kept stealing the music radios out of my truck. Like 5 of them I lost. Didnt care about the radio, cared more about the 125$ window!!! And not not once did my CB radio ever get taken, damn jackasses :censored:

Any how what I did is wondered around best buy, walmart and other places till I found a cheap pair of computer speakers that ran off 12VDC with a 120v ac input. I cut the wall wort off and hooked the wires to 12v source in truck mounted satelite speakers under dash and Sub behind driver seat and used a 1/8 plug to from phone to speakers. Worked great sounded good enough for me and never got window broken again.

Good Luck!!

EDIT SECTION:

Are IPods Bluetooth capable? I don't Know I hate any thing Apple. If so you might be able to use the the Cobra BT heres a Link that CBradiomag guy did.

I'm sure they probably do make some sort of a docking station but the sound quality probably would not be any better.

Crappy audio...even with an external speaker? because that's what I run now.

I tried the external speaker direct to my iPod but it wasn't loud enough. I figured for a few pennies and a little bit of my time, I could take an otherwise "unwanted by anyone" Midland radio and add a cool feature to it.

How would I listen to CB while jamming to tunes? I guess I wouldn't. I mean even when I used said radio with a vehicle with a CD player, I would either have the CD player up and the CB down or the opposite.

Not sure I'd dig the computer speaker route. I'd almost rather just put speakers in the dash and run the iPod to them, but I'd need to find a way to amplify the sound.

This would be the way to go
Look at the "Audio In " Jack on the right hand side.

I am sure if you want to rig up an Audio Input, it should not be too hard to figure out.
Tap into the Mic Audio Line in the radio, and install a small 1/8 inch jack somewhere.

Well Bang for buck Prolly the cheapest and cleaniest sound youll get for a 12VDC system that will work with Imanapplepod.

50$ for radio head 60$ for set of speakers .. 110$ if u hook qand install yerself Set of cheap computer speakers 2 satillites and a sub ... 30$... I dunno Im a cheap bastard.

I would swap that ipod for a nokia xpressmusic fone and car kit with a 64gb sd card.it has fm radio built in Play the music through the car kit. I cant imagine anyone robbing a car kit

First time I have seen that. Modern improvements on old technology. Some company sold a coil back in the 60's that had a small self tapping screw coming out of one end of a molded case that you could screw into anything and turn it into a speaker.
We took 2 of them and made the walls on opposite sides of a room stereo speakers.
