Is this the new Stryker SSB?

Most good mics do not have variable adjustment; even most mics supplied on decent amateur gear don't have variable gain adjustment. The adjustments that were popular on mics like D104's, Turner's and such are basically relegated to the CB world and are a thing of the past. How many studio mics do you know that have adjustments? The answer is not many, if any. Absent a mic gain control on the outside of the radio, you will need external audio gear to adjust the audio input unless you feel like cracking the case open.

If both mic gain and rf gain were so unimportant, it would be left off of every amateur HF rig, yet every single one has both controls. I realize this is an export type radio, but it IS an oversight.

Probably not many, but then studio mic's are somewhat overkill on a 170 quid export radio, theres a few cb/ham mikes that are reasonably priced and give every bit as good audio on limited bandwidth modes as studio mic's will, astatic 575-m6 or adonis am 308/watson wm308 being prime examples. Both have variable gain.Kenwood mc60a would be another i'd consider for excellent audio without busting the bank.i've never had to reduce my radios mic gain once on any of these type of microphones with any of the multitude of export radio's i've used.

like tony i'm a firm believer in finding a good mic, setting audio and leaving it,so it wouldn't be a deal buster for me,but i agree it is an oversight for those who like playing around with knobs/various mic's.

being as i'm from glasgow in scotland the queens english is as alien to me as spelling english words is to you guys over the pond.as for whipping our ass in the 1700's,that is something you may well have done to the english, but no-one whips scottish ass.

incidentally the queen is a german, not english, the real name of the house of windsor is the house of House of Saxe-Coburg and Gotha or to give it its proper german pronounciation Sachsen-Coburg und Gotha, george the v changed it in 1917 after the german airforce bombed london with a plane called the Gotha G.IV ,ironically no doubt from the area the royals come from.they also wanted to shed the image of the english/german saxon roots in denmark.

the royal family is as british as a big mac.the only true brits are the celtic people.

UP THE REBELLION AND THE SOON TO BE SOCIALST PEOPLES REPUBLIC OF SCOTLAND,ALBA GU BRATH.Death to the infidels !!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Note to self; Next time, look the damn flag up before trying to be humorous. :headbang
Please except my most humble redneck apologies if I have insulted you in any way by referring to you as a "Brit".
I know those feelings and wounds run deep over there and never meant to offend while trying to have a little fun at your expense.
If it will smooth things over and make you feel any better, I love Enya and a lot of the Celtic music. (Of course over here, we spell it with a K because we don't know no better) :D

during world war one the Germans nicknamed our regiments "devils in skirts" or "ladies from hell" because we kick ASS.

In every war Britain has fought Scottish or Irish troops are the front line along with our friends from Nepal the gurkhas.the English are generally about 10 miles behind us drinkjing tea and talking pish, thats their strongpoint.the vast majority of the SAS (Scottish Ass Savers) will be Scottish or Irish too.

our country and my city in particular is one of the hardest places on this planet,it shapes our views and our opinions, but we are also some of the warmest most hospitable people to outsiders.

the flag in my signature is the royal standard of scotland,or lion rampant as we call it,nowadays usually adorned by the words "remember bannockburn 1314" on it,where we pasted the english, lol, its our traditional battle flag.despite his deep denial bob85 probably has some scottish blood from when we raped and pillaged yorkshire, lol.

lol,you do realise your confederate battle flag has its roots in my country too, lol, taken from the st andrews saltire, most of your redneck culture is probably descended from immigrants from scotland too, redneck was a name given to the scottish presbyterians who rebelled against the english ruling classes in the 1640's.i believe the ku klux klan (i suspect the burning cross was taken from the scottish clans tradition of burning crosses on the rare occasion we weren't burning englishmen, lol.) and freemasonry also have their roots here,if it wasn't for us scots you guys would probably still be dodging red indians.

enya is irish by the way,a member of the Bhraonáin or brennan in english family who make up the band clannad.if you like celtic music check out runrig and capercaillie on youtube, both are excellent.as you probably know my country and ireland both north and south are heavily intermingled, infact my mother is scottish and my father irish.we have a common enemy that unites us,lol.so much for the united kingdom.a bit like the united states, isn't it ironic that all countries with united or union in there names are the most divided countries on the planet.not forgetting the so called united nations who rarely agree on anything.

anyway you haven't offended me as i'm well aware you guys think scotland is a suburb of england and glasgow is a quaint little village on the clyde, despite it having close on 1 million residents,

p.s. no i don't know jimmy mc donald or any other scottish cousins you may have, pmsl, god i wish i had a pound for everytime an american asked me on the radio if i knew someone in scotland assuming it was a tiny place and we all know each other, lol.

pmsl, haven't seen that in a while, there's probably more afghan weed burning in glasgow these days than in afghanistan,i met the big yin many years ago at the british musician club in charing cross near the city centre, nice big fella, but sadly he has tried to shed much of his glaswegian accent in trying to find fame abroad.he was much funnier before,i was brought up in the same area he was,in the west end of glasgow around partick, scotstoun and whiteinch areas.his sense of humour is very typical of most west end glaswegians, having endured poverty most of our lives under english misrule, but it never stopped us having a good laugh as you well know david from your many trips over here.f@ck it or f@ck off, being the typical glaswegian answer to just about everything.its certainly the most used noun, adjective and verb in this city.

LMAO! I thought you were all kin just like we are here in Alabama. :D

Actually you are correct on many accounts. My middle name is my dear departed Mother's maiden name, McIntyre.
Don't have the entire family tree since most of the branches have hangman's nooses swinging from them, but my Grandmother on my Mother's side did tell me we were descended from a Scottish/Irish mix.
Boy did I have the temper to reflect that when I was growing up! I had to learn to control it when I was in my teens, as I knew that if I didn't I would come to no good end in life. :D

By the way, Enya was another joke, although I do love her music. I looked her up years ago to see who and where she was from after I heard one of her songs.

We are now the United States of the Offended in case you didn't know. Can't do or say a damned thing over here anymore without stepping on someone's toes, but that is a rant for a different thread at a later date.

OK, we got off topic here....But has anyone got there hands on one of these and care to post up some comments?

I've seen this radio called by 3 different names, Anytone, Maas DX-5000 and CommtexCS1000DX..they're supposed to be out by this December. I wonder if they'll be sold under one name instead of three.
The Huracan HR-07-HP looks to be good too. lots of features. A mexican guy posted
a link on youtube in May using one. 400 Euros is close to or around $400...not bad for a 10, 11, and 12 meter rig and the clarifier in the Anytone, Maas, Commtex is extremely flexible
