TEXAS PINEYWOODS
went back again to the 10k. I was using a 102" whip on my quad mag mount. couldnt get it to tune below 1.4. Then, I got a monkeymade mm9, she was pretty good, tuned to 1.3 on the same setup. I didnt really care for the looks all that much and she was heavy and didnt like to flex much at all. This past saturday I traded it in on a new 10k single coil (9" shaft). All I did was slide the new stinger in all the way and got a 1.2, after some fine tuning she's flat and my setup likes it better, seeing slightly more watts out of my amp now too. she's looking sweet as hell!!!

I dont know why these antennas work the way they do. Antenna theory says that a 102" whip will perform better and thats what I have believed, but after trying 10k's, they just flat work better than the rest.

pics in the pic section.

BT88, I would be interested to know what the bandwidth for your 10K is below 2:1 and maybe if you can how that compares with the whip.

i will try it out, i will put my lincoln in the mobile and see. I know the whip is pretty broadbanded. I used it for 10m and 11m no prob.

yea the mm9 is heavy.12 question though wouldnt a 12 or 17
ich shaft math up betterr

Not sure you can get much better as far as swr. Actually I didnt want the shaft and coil to stick up too far because I dont want it to get knocked off. I think the 9" is perfect for me.

you're right, the longer shafts are supposed to tune better I have heard. I have had a 6" single coil, this 9", and a 27" mounted on the toolbox and they all tuned flat.

marconi, 17" shaft dual coil 10K on mag mount shows <1.3:1 @ 26.835 & <1.8:1 @ 28.500. 2:1 swr bandwidth is over 2.3 mHz with THIS particular set up. as a rule of thumb, they seem to have roughly 2 mHz bandwidth, 2:1 swr. don't remember #'s off the top of my head, but, R & X aren't neccessarily optimum at that wide of a bandspread, but it is a 1/4 wave antenna on magnets, so you gotta be happy when the amp puts out full power without excessive heat.

all single coil. the 6" shaft did fine. I had a 22" shaft and bought a trimag so I needed a shorter shaft on the roof. bought a 6" lower shaft and new stinger and converted the 22". tuned down pretty low but the stinger didnt need to be cut, actually I had to pull it up from the bottom of the top shaft to match right.

A friend of mine says his Monkey Made works better than his 10K. I'm swapping out my Wilson 5000 for a Monkey Made to see how it works. Different people have different luck. I guess it depends on location, your radio, atmosphere, antenna placement and who knows what else.

i my wilson 5k for a mm9 and seen a increase so youll
like that.my ONLY complanit is the monkey is just too heavy
mine didnt seem to be as widebanded as the 10k either

T bone have you looked both of the antennas they are talking about. The 10K is much better made. I am not saying the 10K works better than any other coil out but as good as any I would say and oh so lite! I went from a 9 inch shaft to a 22 inch and the difference wasnt night and day but there was a difference. But you are right about the 9 inch shaft being nice and short so most of your height is stinger Texan. Great antennas. 74 IN I think mine is about 86 inches tall. Im in Indiana also. Not far from Evansville. Were are you located?

I know one thing, I dont have to worry about driving under tree limbs near as much with the 10k because the stinger is much more flexible than the monkey. That and I just love the looks of the 10k much more than the monkey.

The 10K is a nice clean looking antenna plus I like the fact that you can replace individual pieces if need be. I went with the MM because a friend of mine said his MM worked better than his 10K. I don't have it mounted yet because I have other wires/cables I have to reroute at the same time. But once it's up I can then experiment with other antennas.
