As you may know i have a home brew dual band J pole on my base. if i was to buy a NMO base mount and was to use my diamond CR320A on the base with my yaesu would i see more gain on RX and TX then running the j pole?

The Tri band base antennas are a little too much to spend and since i have multiple mobile antenna's...I would figure id save $$$ by using a Extra antenna

I thought you figured this out a few weeks back? I wouldn't bother with a mobile antenna with little gain when for another $60 you can have the real winner here - the Comet CX-333.

This antenna has quite a bit more gain than a J-pole or a mobile antenna.
No contest!

Vanilla,

I see you are a man of many avatar's. But to answer your question; It depends on the gain of the j-pole. If built correctly a j-pole should have 3 dBd, and that's a fact. So you would have to compare your j-pole to the other antenna to figure it out. Simple math at that point. Just remember that 3 dBd = 5.15 dBi when doing your comparisons.
