I have a Kenwood TS-430S transceiver that I want to have checked out and brought up to 100%. I looked at the Kenwood on-line site and checked for authorized repair . Their list of international repair centers has not been updated since 2003 and is worthless. I am looking for a company or an individual with Kenwood repair experience to look at my 430S. Either in Colombia (preferred) or the US. I will go with US repair if I have to, but shipping a transceiver from Colombia costs a small fortune. Name, Phone #, and/or email will be fine. Can any of you guys help me out on this?? Thanks, in advance

I have a 430 that am mode seems to be pooched. Upon top cover removal i find a taped up mess and what appears to be an incorrect am filter sitting in the spot where the am filter would be soldered in. Looks like this thing was spliced in to a small coax type wire. Thinking of trying to remove it and re-attach / splice the wires back together. Just maybe am mode will work again.

Your AM filter, is a Fox-Tango, which then became International Radio (INRAD). It is an 8 pole discrete crystal lattice filter, which is physically larger, than the Kenwood filter, so it needs to be wired in. It is a much better filter than the stock Kenwood filter, so consider yourself lucky. Hopefully a cleanup on the install will resolve your issue.

good times. :).otherwise she works well on ssb which is key for me. Having the am right would be nice. Pretty sure i need to lift the board(s) out to see what they comandeered under with the wiring to the filter. A botched job regardless. Will do my best :)

When I get the mess in my shack/shop lined out, I'm going to setup my TS-430S
with my new 8-pill amp. My trusty 139XLR is going on the bench for some significant mods. I had an authorized tech in Bogota look at my 430, and now, on my scope, spec analyzer, meters it's looking good. I read everyones posts about good DX reports, and want to get back on the air ASAP.

I have two of the TS-430S radios. Had to change out the filter relay board as some bands stopped working and did the preventative maintenance to the amp board so the finals don't decide to full throttle and burn up.

I don't think AM is that great on the radio though, so let it be and a plain Cobra 29 will yield better results on AM. :)
