... whether you are or not.
Once in a while I like to stop and reflect on things. Today is one of those. I came in for my usual "daily cruise" and saw the post on Cobra 29 with no modulation. An older thread....but it was revived by another person with another radio...that got fixed.
I may never have mentioned it .....but when I find threads detailing proper troubleshooting of these radios.... I do this weird thing. I copy paste meaningful entries out of such a post into a Word doc separating each posting with some kind of a line ( ========================== ) so that I can hear the problem up front and then follow the process.... hopefully to the end with a repaired radio. Then I save it... naming the file in a way that identifies the radio and the problem.
I do this because .... the way I view any of these repairs.... is a form of "functional block diagram analysis". Try to maintain awareness of what the "blocks" are in any given radio, what each does, how each ties in to the system, THEN use that awareness to determine what IS working and what is NOT..... to narrow down where I need to be looking.
These "threads" where many of you contribute your time and effort serve as a "great tutorial" on how this is done. In the aftermath, I will often take these DOCS and sit with the schematic, look up the components and NOTE where they are in what block and how they might possibly cause this issue and it can be "eye opening"!
That said, I just wanted to throw in a load of "thanks" to all of you that do this. I hope that you never underestimate the help that you are giving ... NOT ONLY to the person who wants their particular radio to work.... but ALSO to "loonies like me" who really want to understand what "goes on in here" and how these things do what they do..... NOT JUST...... "why isn't mine working?". Many thanks for sharing your time and expertise.
And, if you happen to be a Veteran, an extra load of thanks for establishing and defending fact that we can sit in peaceful times and come together in a common cause like this.
May sound corny......but that would be me!!!!
