Kl 203 issues

Even if DK is turned down to 1w won’t the forward swing on the Galaxy when modulated blast that KL203? On my McKinley the DK is 1.5w but swing is 12w going into my KL203.

I finally ordered a PEP meter, but I ran my original KL-203p with more than minimum deadkey on every radio I have.

Not going to recommend the practice above, but I still wouldn’t open a base model AM/SSB just to set lower deadkey. Checking other or all parameters would make it worthwhile.

RM says no more than ten, and really 5 or less is best.

DK in my DX-99V2 was turned down from 2.25W to 1.5W at DTB last week when radio received tune & alignment.

Yes, when an increase in peak input no longer makes an increase in peak output, the amp is hurting. I put my Ranger 936 on my 203 and it worked, but is better matched to my Cobra 29.

Low power on mine (previous 2.25W DK) swung to 15W.

The only time I noticed the KL203p getting really warm was a 5-hour drive with another hand across both MS & LA where his questions elicited lengthy answers (don’t remember which dual-final Galaxy was in use).

When you getcha a big boy AM Radio and start cruising the highways & byways of the radio waves to stir up rush-hour traffic from mobile or base (roger-bipped) we’ll expect a full report.

A GALAXY 959 is one talkin’ radio.
Pair it with a 225W RM ITALY KL-7505.
$180/ea.

Run it at 140W or so.

Starting today I’d have the 959 versus the 99V2 (the extra $125 should go towards the DSP Speaker). Best modern radio (post-1990) I’ve chatted with. RX/TX can be among the best in clarity & distance (where antenna install is on par; a friend runs a pair of Wilson 5000 on his 379 that truly gets out. No foot warmer).

Other guys naturally respond well to a big radio that’s clear & clean. Makes it a world of fun on its own. “Pass the time of day”, stuff. Dry wit. The apt quip. (Long before any intentional aggravation; yes, you really do want to learn how). They’ll key up just to talk to you when you wonder aloud why 19 (or 17 or 15 there in SoCal) is so quiet .

The battle of Wit: awakens the sleepers.

One is missing out on the most common use of Citizen Band (AM; on 19) when without the Galaxy experience: it won’t be duplicated elsewhere or in other ways.

It’s where the roller-coaster ride is in real-time.
Has consequences . . tempts fate.

Lol senseless

Why? (Seriously). For me the 203 came years after the dual final radios. Why shouldn’t I continue as I have in turning down the dead key. I may (someday), but haven’t smoked a 203-type, yet.

Came across a set of directions in this storage closet I live in while home:

12A service
Power Leads 3” total length
Low Pass Filter 27/586 required

I’ve been negligent in acquiring test gear (PEP Meter ordered Friday), and there’s more to come in that vein.

If I had a swing to 15W with 2.5W DK (test bench numbers), turning it down to 1.5W would give (?)

If it’s as simple as 6:1 (don’t know) it’d be hitting 9W with the lower DK. Max Input 10W (per directions). Is it this to which you refer?

Or that an Attenuator ought to be affixed to solve both that and an initial high momentary power spike (if I read that correctly).

If so, point me at a source for same with what spec (thanks).

Or?

I have a brand new kl-203 right out of the box its having the same issues when i unley the mic the box stays in transmission until i turn off the power on the box itself.
Its not back feeding and ive only driven 1 watt swing 4 to 5 input.
I dont see how it would be a stuck relay of it goes back to standby when power is shut off any sugestions ? .. in not sure if copper electronics will take it back since theres no warranty

They have a policy of no returns, unfortunately. What radio are you using?

Sounds more like a faulty keying circuit, I'd have to find some decent drawings before I'd bet my balls on that, but that's my initial thought.
