3 watts on am.
148 gtl dialed back to 3 on am. About 18 on ssb. That’s not too high. On my 203 3w in tends to warm it up if fan is off. 2w works for me.
The 203 works well behind my low output radios. I was using it behind a 23 ch Midland base and it worked greatThat’s not too high. On my 203 3w in tends to warm it up if fan is off. 2w works for me.

On AM I never run more than 1 to 1.5 watt into a KL amp. You won't see a good ratio in most cases if you go higher. If you run 3 watts into a KL203 it will key like 70-90 watts and swing to 110 and that's not what you want. You want the amp to key like 20-30 watts and swing 100-110 on a KL203.
KL503 different numbers but generally same idea. Keep input low.
