Kl 503 linear

kl203 uses 4x rm3
kl703 uses 16x rm3

the kl503 i have seen used 1 driving 8 rm3,

RM fet & bipolar amps are a lottery with regards to what will be inside when you open the lid,
the fets are RM3 but they don't all perform equal, not all the same fet.

I leave the KL203-P drinking thru an 8W fire-hose (ha!) from the Galaxy 86V . Tuner shows 90W + (1.5W Reflect) after the bandpass filter. That little amp has worked pretty much every day of the past 2.5-years. Call it 550-600 days.

I barely got off the radio for about three days last week (weather; including one of the most difficult days I’ve ever encountered).

I tend not to speak in paragraphs on air, but there were times I spoke at some length.

Exclusively AM-19 (except to check Sideband occasionally).

Older pic with the 99v2 onboard. Tuner Inductance changed to letter “H” (“L” is least amount), and Capacitance stays at 6.5 (5 is one half) after changes from pic

I’ve had no complaints, per se, about audio or other (turn Mic Gain to full), so things are okay for now. .

On AM I never run more than 1 to 1.5 watt into a KL amp. You won't see a good ratio in most cases if you go higher. If you run 3 watts into a KL203 it will key like 70-90 watts and swing to 110 and that's not what you want. You want the amp to key like 20-30 watts and swing 100-110 on a KL203.

KL503 different numbers but generally same idea. Keep input low.

Thats the same experience I had. 3w in and its a 45-50w key and swing to 100w. 1.5w and it keys 30w or so and swings to about 125w. But ya by just adding that extra watt makes it key too high and run a lot warmer!!

Guess my -P model is double super-secret badazz, huh?

I’ve asked for on-air comparisons on AM-19 and the only reply has been its “less loud” when I reduce power at the radio.

Audio quality said to be about the same.

I’ll try again. (And, no, not for sale).

The real question: Am I the only one who significantly upsized the factory power wiring?
