Kraco kcb4007 (what I learned before I let the smoke out)

I still want to send one of these to ya Andy. I'm doing a second one to experiment more and see if I could get more output which I don't see why I can't get somewhere around a 7-watt carrier swinging up north of 30, and I might have to play around with the driver more. So as always I will keep my eyes peeled but I'm definitely not into shelling out more than 15 bucks on one of these before mods. I don't know why but I see em going for 40 and 50 bucks most of the time which is pretty weird for such a crap radio stock

You don't need to send me anything - I've got a junk box, closet and stuff I'd love to take out and put back on the bench.

But that may NEVER happen, once mom passed, the Wife's been pretty "dominate" over what I'm able to restore and otherwise function with. So in fewer words, I lost the bench to her needs.

To keep the peace, you folks still deal with me out here with an occasional peek into the back of the closet where I still have stuff I can take out and play, use, repair stuff, with and have enough time to put in all back there closed up for another day.

Happy wife happy life they say. I've been clearing off a shelf of repair jobs. Unless it's one of the four radios I decided I wasn't selling, and if it works it's for sale. I just resurrected a cobra 140 GTL that definitely seen some use and had a bit of a beat up case so I'm painting that hammered black. I also have to change a meter and recap it. But the fact that I got it working is a victory. it will be for sale and I will post it if it actually makes it to the internet marketplace

I have another one! in addition to the mosfet conversion gonna try using a irf520 in both spots instead of irf510 driver, I would like to replace the audio transformer with a Darlington transistor and try to get some hi fi audio out of it. I believe the transformer in their stock made it so my power was more or less capped at around 20 to 25 pep and if I tuned it up wrong it would squeal. And as it goes when you start pulling more juice through a transformer the audio will start to suffer at some point. So I tuned it up so it has around a three-watt carrier and sounds decent and loud for what it is, gave it to my friend who had one as a kid. This next one I would like to attack the audio section. I have a general idea of what I have to build in place of the transformer but I would like to hear someone else's thoughts before I start on this in roughly a week
