LDG AL-100 Tuner for Alinco

I have used the LDG AT-11MP tied to my Alinco DX70th for over 15 yrs. It has worked flawlessly for wire, verticals and even tuned the metal roof at our Field Day site a few years ago.

A buddy of mine runs a few Alincos and he runs a DX70 mobile he has it in a pickup truck and has one of those outdoor Alinco auto tuners mounted to the outside cab wall under his rollbar it works flawlessly other than that tuner is louder then hell!!! but relays so its ecpected to chatter ;)

He bought an older dual band mobile I believe its a 605 model and it isnt working I had taken a look at it aswell 2 weeks ago and upon keyup it stays keyed for 5 seconds and then drops out 'unkeys' on its own. I thought is was the TOT "Time Out Timer" but upon further investigating I believe its in the PA board bad Final Transistors.

I have 2 of the little DJ-V5 handhelds and there great!! I know a tower installer that does the big tower for TV Radio police firee ETC and was on a job and had his DJ-V5 fall I believe it was 300 Feet OFF A TOWER and hit the grass and all that he needs to replace was the side pannel with the keyup and 2 other buttons!!! It still works and after a fall like that it should be completely dead and destroyed to say the least!!!

I believe he was gonna write Alinco to tell them how that radio survived that fall!! As I said I have 2 of the DJ-V5 and their great reliable handheld radios and have some weight to them so I can only imagine the velocity that little $hi++in thing hit the ground at!!! I was sold on mine but after hearing Mikes story on 75 Meters this past year I was totally sold on them!! He just laughed and is truly amazed!!

I've had numerous Alinco stuff over the years. I liked just about everything, except for the DJ-X10T wideband receiver. It was inherently deaf, but that was to be expected.

They have had turds, but no more than the other big guys. I've always had a fondness for the DX-70 flavors. Really strong performers, but I dislike the separation cables.

The SR8T is a potent performer and built solid, I just wish they'd beef up the encoder shaft. I really enjoy it for CW work. It'd be the bomb if it had 6 meters.

Used SR8T's can be had for little $$$.

I have tried interfacing different LDG and MFJ tuners, but always seem to have problems when using them with an Alinco interface cable.

This new LDG tuner was initially introduced a year or more ago. It was pulled and I believe, redesigned or something. Occasionally, you will see one of the early models pop up for sale. I wished it would handle more than 50 watts on 6. I'm not crazy about the plastic enclosure, but I think LDG isn't expecting to get rich of AL-100 sales either.

Ide like to try one of the SR8T rigs, Do they cover 6 meters aswell as the standard HF? And are the displays a decent easy to read size??

Mailman brought my AL-100 this morning. So far, it's working good with no hiccups yet. I wished it had more features like the other LDG tuners. I'd really like to have 2 antenna ports. A bar graph would also be nice. More memories would be welcomed, it only stores 200.

Oh well, at least it works. I've tested it with my SR8T and DX-70TH. I'm actually surprised LDG even considered making a dedicated tuner for any Alinco radio. Maybe, if the tuner sells well, they'll upgrade it a little bit.

Oh wouldn't it be great to have ALL the nice features of the high end of things?? Oh well, gotta pay to play! Figure out how to use what you got to get the most out of it. Ain't nothing 'free', so you gotta 'make do'... Right?

Alinco is the red headed step child of the ham community

I'd like to see the international sales figures of the SR8T. It's probably more than I imagined, due to the cheap price and all the world's cheap hams.

Been putting this tuner thru the wringer. Very happy with it. Alinco owners should give this tuner a try. Perfect match for the DX-70. Looks good sitting on the SR8T, as well. Pretty cheap to buy.
