with what I have read about antennas the cap hat is to close to the coil for it to be right.
Just read through Marconi data, saw the same. Data was in a post about a Zing Ring. Comparing cost of building 2 element cubical quad to buying. Cost effective is the Sirio 27-4 for horz.
Just the spreaders will cost $107, build the spider, fiddle, file, tune, etc. Building is fun, but lack the time, weather permitting.

Highway Man, this is not a big deal. I just have a different opinion. That's why I did the real world test and later compared these two radiators using modeling over a controllable GP as well. I did not see any detectable differences.
U812, If I misunderstood you words...I apologize.
I never tested my GR45 on a car/truck. IMO the GR45 mobile antenna is as good as a 102" whip in match, gain, and maximum TOA. However, if we compare the horizontal gain for these two...it shows about 50% more horizontal gain (where the GR45 shows horizontal gain equals - 50 dbi gain vs. the whip with - 99 dbi gain.
I doubt we could detect the horizontal signal from either antenna just using our radio...but it is true that the GR45 model shows more horizontal RF than the whip, but according to my models, both 1/4 wave radiators show negative horizontal gain.

Have a 102 GP up 37'. Three radials. Home built, call it a StarBuster. Modeled it off a StarDuster, actually started with the hub from original SD. Broke that. All parts were scrap aluminum tubing, top element broke. Took a 102 whip with HD spring and replaced. Works great...1.0 to 1.2 swr.

Saw the GR45 and it seems to have less wind resistance. I'm on the Gulf and wind here north of Corpus will cause havoc. Being a fulltimer in camper the GR45 could be portable enough.
The price of GR45 is less than I can build a 2 element CQ, and less resistance.

I’ve had one over twenty years. The big man at SE told me it was designed to go on a sedan trunk panel (ahead of lid). Body protected from the volume of wind, but with the hat well above the roof (it’s a tall antenna, top heavy despite light weight).
Had mine on this:
The initial steps are via Stargun Certification Points. Earn one per three SG attachment or fastener purchases. After which the portal for GoldenRod approval will appear.
It’s fun. It’s weird. It’s a talker. It’s a huge windload mobile at 65-mph while roof center.

A great but very fragile antenna. It didnt last long, but about as good as a 102" wip.
It looks like a good antenna, as good as
the102, soI've read on several websites,
but I wouldnt want to hit a tree limb with
it.
At 56" (vs. 102"), maybe the chances of hitting a tree limb are reduced by 50%???

Didn't realize it that much shorter than the whip. Guess I should have read all the specs.
RT431, I think the older GR45 had a Top Hat that was probably close to 50% of the 1/4 wave length. I think they now have a new version that is longer with a smaller top hat.
That is what real top hats do...allow the antenna radiator to be notably shorter. Those with small top hats still make the radiator a little shorter, but no where neat 50%. Some claim these smaller Top Hats help minimize static and lightening.
The original Astro Plane had a <>50% Top Hat and that antenna worked great if installed correctly.
After doing some reading, I still know the GR45 is not as good as my 102". Wouldn't dare put that on my truck.
Compact with some ground planes added might be useful for base type horz antenna. Lighting claims horz polarization. But just not enough gain nor the rejection of a 2 element cubical quad.
