limiter for grant xl.

Dudes )-: Im guessing your only AMer's here ? even still , those radios got all kinds of audio without cutting a damned thing on them. You cut R131 and those fine radios sound over modulated to me !! and sound even worse on SSB )-: A nice loud radio ? You surely already have one with out ripping it's tongue out already !! It's all good guys , I realize folks like what they like (-: Alls the radio needs is a basic tune and they will perform nicely , a nice power mic or even a cheapy 452 echo mic would work real nice on those. Grant XL in a dump truck )-: You want to be earth shaking loud KM ?? Save the Grant and get a 25 or 29 and put a swing kit in it ,then you can blast'um out of there seats !! but man !! not a mint Grant XL ..your killing me dude !! (-:

*Shakes Head*

I keep having to put the limiters back in after people *Clip* them out because they sound like hell and there is no comparison between a clipped radio and one that has been tuned the right way. I guarantee a well tuned radio will walk all over one with a clipped modulation limiter, Especially a Grant XL.

Grant's sound great with r131 clipped you can control it still with the mic gain. Also you can put a switch in to the resistor so you can run it clipped or not.Make sure you put rf beads on the line.Install a variable by using the rf gain pot to vr10 now you can adjust the dead key.

like I said , guys like what they like and can sound any "damned" way they want to. I personally just think Grant XL's or older 148 GTLs don't need clipped. The "special" thing about being a radio operator is that we get to make are own rules and sound any God "Damned" way we feel like. I just know that they don't make those radios any more and they were truly decent radios along with making fine base stations. A switch to the resistor ? Hmmmm (-: Peace

Like i said im just playing with this one but i will not do anything that i cant put back to stock. This is one of the philippnes made Grants( i have 5 of them) that i found and it has never been messed with by anyone........well now it has. Dont worry guys. Im not going to do the truck stop mods like big finals, swing kits and volted finals. Im just doing the basic peak and tune but i wanted to see how it would sound with the limiter clipped. So far every one says it sounds great.

I'm with ya there Switch, run it how ya like but clean crisp AM sounding audio is not what you get when you clip R131. What you end up with is loud blairing muddy audio. I had a clipped Grant xl I ran with a 667 and OMG, it got out, and it was loud but I would bleed 10 channels either way for 5 miles. Heck, you go go one channel away and understand what I was saying.
