was using a lincoln in my 4 wheel drive, but now gone back to smaller family car and guess what? no room for a radio! i have tried every possible place but no-go.i have come to the conclusion that i need a radio with a seperation cable,so that i can mount the face like a sat nav unit. thinking of a yaesu 857, icom 706 or ft100, its overkill for 11 meters use but dont see any other options, have been told the 857 is the one to get,any views from users would be welcome!

Hi:
If dashboard space is a problem, try the RF Limited Magnun 257 (25-30Watts all mode) or Magnun 357 (0-150).
Is a very small radio, actually smaller than your President Lincoln.

This one has mine atention. but i don't now if there is an us am version.Pro-CB - Wide-Neo

Hi..

Although i agree those radios are overkill for 11 meters..
Many people have gone that route past and present..

without doubt either of those radios would work very well

Although as the saying goes..
antenna.....antenna.........antenna

do not forget the radio
once you have your desired antenna and desired location
Do not forget the radio does indeed make a difference
the right radio can make a HUGE difference

Anyway of the radios you mentioned
yaesu 857, icom 706 or ft100

I would recomend the Icom 706 MKIIG
for sure it is an Exellent radio..

such a radio would likly put the bug in you to get your ticket
(but if you want to stay in 11 meters..there is no harm there)

if money is not a object, then
Icom's IC-7000
i know it is not cheep..
but consider it...for on SSB (yes even on 11 meters)
i get killer audio reports off of even the stock mike
i am told it is broadcast quality

Anyways...
i still use my 706MKIIG on occasion
given the radios you asked...it would be the 706MKIIG i would recomend to you..

forget those other export radios or worked on cb or 10 meter radios (i have a 2970 that is a nice radio...no comparison to 706MKIIG)
also the 706MKIIG is very easy to operate

Any other questions....
Just ask

thanks for the replies so far guys, the wide-neo is a great looking radio, but i use ssb around .555 so no go on this one.one of the other things i have noticed is the high price of cb radio gear, when compared with radios like the yaesu ft100 and icom 706 on the second hand market, the difference in quality and features is vast, but the price difference is fairly minimal.
i always prided myself on using relatively cheap equipment to make my contacts on 11m,i get more of a buzz using an old/cheaper radio and mic and getting a good report with a 1/4 wave whip on the roof of the car, than i would with a more expensive amateur radio, but i dont see a choice.....could be the end of an era.

I don't have much more i'm afraid. it's an cb-radio for the asian marked (haven't seen one in europe yet) what i have is on my site and isn't much.
The website from the company that makes them has been down for an while now and the email adress i had doesn't work anymore. As far as i now it's an 40 channel FM radio.

I am surprised that more CB's DON'T have detatchable faceplates, or remote heads.
Me to and that's why i like the wide-neo.
I have heard of other older models that had detatchable faceplates but6 i never seen one myself. [/code]

The wide-neo looks like it is made with the same cheap plastic as my tv remote. Mabey it is quality, but it doesn't look like it.

Mabey the guys at stryker will take notice of this missing option and fill the niche. That could definately set them apart. Then we would know it is not only unique, but also a great radio. A remote mount face might be neat, but space is not really a problem for me.

i think that radio manufacturers have maybe overlooked the market for remote face radios, and a previous post is right about the radios being basically the same as they were in the seventies,i suppose if the market is biggest in the U.S.,who also drive a high percentage of suv/offroad/mpv generally larger cars, then perhaps this is why the issue has'nt been raised until now.
the problem is that i dont want to file chunks out of my dash to fit a radio,or drill holes all over the place,so i am pretty limited in my options.

I personally like the James Bond 007 effect !! It's all about techknowlogy these days , AWESOME !! things are just coming in smaller packages and doing what the bigger ones could do. How about these tiny little stereo's that have been coming out that just sound top notch !! cell phones the size of a wallets and smaller , ect.ect.ect. Build it and they will come. (-:

BTW what is up with CB radios in North America?
They all look like they did in the 70's, need to do what that picture shows, start making some Lcd's on CB's with lcd power meters and readouts! This is 2006 people!! :P

I am surprised that more CB's DON'T have detatchable faceplates, or remote heads.

Most CBers run amplifiers today so those people are more than willing to give up a little more space to have a better radio. In any application with some thought a suitable mount could be fabricated.

I agree "antenna...antenna...antenna", but disagree on the radio choice. I like everything about the 706 BUT the Noise Blanker. It was inferior both as a base unit and mobile unit, as compared to the Yaesu rigs. Note on the FT100 - it's picky about grounds, and rf feedback. I had one in a mini-van and it worked fine. Sold the mini-van and bought a sedan and never could get it to work 100% of the time. I found myself listening more than talking. Exit FT-100.
