I am looking for a indoor scanner antenna for my Realistic Pro 2011 which indoor antenna do you recommend for under $20?? I know radio shack has the little L shaped telescoping one but for $21 I think it is a ripoff

If you're JUST going to be listening, just take a piece of light-gauge wire and the appropriate antenna connector. Connect the wire to the center terminal, plug it in and listen. It should work well if it's hanging pretty much vertical, but you can experiment and see just how well different configurations work.

I'm using an old cb antenna in my mobile and it is in the trunk of my car, but I get good reception as signals are nearby...Also using a 2m/70cm mag mount right now in my home, just have to get the right adaptors or rig something up.

If you have too much metal in your home or live in a mobile home with a lot of steel, you may need to place by window or get it outside.

Best of luck, hope this helps out, as you can see you can use just about anything for receiving. Your mileage may vary.

Hey DJ ; try a simple set of rabbit ears point one verticle one horizontal and adjust the telescopic lenght for best required band performance .Or just a coax with random copper wires hooked up , one to center core another to the sheid braid of coax .The other end of coax can be fitted with your bnc connecter too scanner . Try to install in a window sill for best reception. A fun little homebrew project ,,,,,,,,,,,later Bob.

As old as the Pro-2011 is, it more than likely uses a Motorola type connector.I have crammed a coat hanger into the antenna jack on these for a cheap indoor antenna for local monitoring.

Since that radio has the older style jack in the back for the antenna , anyone ever try using a Vehicle antenna ? Since newer vehicles have a 1 pc antenna you could trim as needed or if you could find the old telescoping antenna you could adjust it & place in a window . Now I'm curious & might try it !:LOL: Junk yards are loaded w/ antennas .

This is an old thread but oh well...had mine kinda indoor-but to the outdoor - thru wall... read on...

In mine I did, came with that "Motorola long pin plug" only mine had a long whip "sleeve" I put on a deck.

You just needed to remember how they did the hole for the Fender/Roof pillar so you can make it custom fit and the "sleeve" stays put alongside the 2 X 4 or Spindle for your Decks handrail or privacy fence dressing.(fascia)

Miss that scanner, but today most of our locals are using scrambler technology and Cell-Phone Wi-Fi hotspot stuff to communicate...There's very little to listen to on the air anymore around here.

Yep - very old.

I have scanners in the shack connected to an attic discone and a yagi for 850Mhz. Opens up a lot of possibilities for milair and distant public service.

But...I also run one in the garage with nothing but a set-back center loaded rat shack antenna. It actually does everything I need in that application.

Scanners & antenna's ? I know we are getting off track again ( at least me ) I can't count the number of scanners I have . But I love my old Regency Xtal scanner . The audio quality that comes out of it is amazing ! Just can't find the right Xtal's for my town . Antenna's 5 , 2 RS mag mounts that I use , 1 that looks like a 1/4 wave GP , 1 cheap smaller Gp & my Discone that receives amazing @ 30' high .
