I'm in need of replacing my old 1/2 wave antenna that has been mounted almost 60 foot in a pinetree about 24 years ago. The antenna has been up there so long that the limbs have now grown up and over the antenna and now has it bent over to almost a 45 degree angle. I haven't used it in well over 10 years and have been out of the hobby for that long. I'm needing recommendations on a antenna that I should use in that same tree.
I want something that will last hopefully as long as the one that's up in the tree now. But I'm hesitant to put a fiberglass antenna up there and feel that aluminum might work better. Also, would rather not have one with horizontal ground plane radials as that might cause additional issues with getting it up there and with the surrounding tree limbs. The Maco and Tornado has them but it appears the tornado's is smaller.
I'm looking at the Maco Alpha V 5/8, Solarcon IMAX 2000 and the Sirio Tornado 27
I've attached a couple of photos of my current tree bound antenna.
