LQQKING to purchase a clean 2 pill for SSB use

Hey guys.. I'm kinda new on this particular forum. So I'm still trying navigate proper and figure things out.... I just recently put up a base station.. And was looking to buy a clean AB1 output amp.. I used to run a TS 400HDV but that was over 20 years ago... I've heard the new ones are not as good with Chicom parts and what not. I was looking at the TS 350.. Can any of you's direct me in the right place for a smooth, reasonable price, good customer service business transaction? If I do get a mobile amp, I will need a good ballsy power supply as well... Any input from you guys would be much appreciated..

I hate to say it but you'll be much better off going with a reputable builder than most of what's mass produced out there. It'll cost a living but that's just the cost of a good amplifier these days. Not sure if the Tin Man in the Bam is still building but that would be my recommendation. I sold a tin man to a forum member here and he's had nothing but good to say about his work too.

I got a good deal on a new TS-350.. Want to send it out to get hot prodded.. Toshiba pills, thicker gauge wires etc.. Looking for a tech to do the task? Any input would be appreciated..

Most any tech worth his salt is backed up for 6-7+ months . A TS out of the box will do fine as long as you don't beat the breaks off of her. Adding Toshibas is going to be a $200 per transistor investment minimum (2879s). Donkey Stomper makes a good amp, he'll add bias for a little extra change and it works great, I own one of his 1X4s and she sounds excellent on SSB (so I've been told).

Best bet on that new TS350 is have a tech make sure it's at a 50 ohm impedance. Then upgrade the power cord to heavier gage. Beyond that there is not much to "hot rod" as you put it. Just run it and don't over drive it. Toshiba finals for that amp will be stupid expensive.

Pushing an amplifier beyond the ratings almost never increases your range, and always reduces the remaining service life.

A machine is a machine. The higher the stress load, the shorter the service life.

"IF" I was willing to let go of any original Toshiba 2879's, it would be no less than $250 each .......

Its not just the cost of the pills but everything has to be changed. TS is using crappy dei pills and you cant just pull the dei and drop in toshibas.
Personally I would've called Carl the founder of Xforce who is back building under the Carl Built name.
And yeah, toshibas are or can be $200 + each and dont fall for the $50 chinese fake toshibas.
