My B & S Detector tells me to be very very careful. Oh well all is good in the house....

In case you forgot there were issues with the forum here maybe a month ago. Some kind of trojan horse virus or something like that was here. Lots of members with virus protection had alerts and warnings from there service. This should all go away when they re-test the site and all is clear. If you check old threads you can read all about it.

maybe that why i had to do a complete syttem restore on my computer? Anyway I run NOD32 anitvirus and it seems to catch more stuff than norton did.

the trojan was imbedded in a transparent animated gif image. once the trojan is executed by the host machine it establishes an outbound internet connection to all1count.net at which time all personal and financial data is siphoned from the host machine, YOUR COMPUTER. if you actually use a Hosts file in your machine then add the entry below:

127.0.0.1 all1count.net

the trojan only dumps its payload if you're dumb enough to allow files with the .VBS extension to be opened and run using Windows Scripting Host.

AntiVirus is no help until the threat is already inside the machine.
if it's gotten that far then it's only a split second from the time it enters until the damage is done.

three things will protect you.

1. a packet level firewall that monitors and controls outbound traffic as well as inbound.

2. disassociate .VBS files from Windows Scripting Host.

3. install and maintain a Hosts file for Windows.

now you can toss the AV.

with the above 3 protections in place the trojan has been rendered impotent and can be seen at encryption level format in plain text. the trojan executable can be seen running and constantly changing as it is viewed and reloaded in the browser. the first decrypted line begins with GIF89A........

phpBB : Critical Error

Could not connect to the database

that was due to the powweb server being unable to write to the MySql Database because of the unusually large number of http requests for the wwdx page. reference the large amount of "guest" traffic over the last hour....

none of this has anything to do with the phpbb critical error on wwrf. if you weren't connected to wwrf you would not see the error page. the connection error default page in IE tells you absolutely nothing in this instance.

if you're using Windows Hosts file then DNS doesn't come into play if you have added this line to the file:

65.254.250.106 forum.worldwidedx.com #(connection allowed)

Hosts does the lookup on the local drive and supplies the ip address bypassing the Domain Name Server.

But lately both error pages are becoming a constant when trying to access this Web site and/or it's Web pages.

you can eliminate the first one and skip the DNS server by using Windows Hosts file to do the ip lookup instead. there isn't much you can do about the second critical phpbb error. that is generally caused by powweb server being inundated by excessive http requests. as has been seen in the last 24 hours powweb can't handle the number of requests that would result in approximately 45 - 50 guests + members or any mix of guests and members totalling that number in the forum at the same instant in time.

when the requests are coming in faster than the server can write to the database you get the critical phpbb error page.
