Hi - Been a while since I've been here as I've been out of the hobby for a while due to life... :) However, I've been pulled back in due to finding a very nice Super MaCo 300, chrome top, with four M2057s and one 8950. I've never seen one of these before. Is anyone familiar with them? I had a Super Brute 75 with one M2057 back in the early 80s, but that's the only "super" I've ever owned...

I plan on recapping the amp and using it with a re-crystaled Sonar FS 3023 on 29.010 AM. Lots of locals hang out up there, and I think it will be fun to run an old-time CB set!

Any information, stories, advice, manual or schematic links, etc. would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Shadetree Mechanic,

Those Sonar 2340s are nice, and you are fortunate to have one!
There are a lot of the 23-channel versions around my neck of the woods, but I've never seen a 40 channel version like yours "in person." Your Contex 1 seems similar to my Super MaCo 300. I've even read where the M2057s can be replaced with 6LQ6s with a filament voltage adjustment. If mine ever go out, I'll probably do this mod. The M2057s are $190.00 each at the one place I could find them!

Nice to meet you!

Thats the same set up as one of my 300's. Orange face 1x4. All 8950's. Im not as big a fan of these as i am my 2x5 maco 300's. Have 3 of those. The are all 6 volt tubes. Sharp looking rig though

Reminds me of a MaCO I sold my friend out in WI.... I have to reconnect with him and find out if it still working, it was a 1 driving 3 8950, but the tech I had set it so the radio drove all four.... much much nicer.

Maco 300 chrome top, like mine is supposed to have 5 M2057 tubes in there, but the 8950 will work it just will not do as much. The m2057 tube was a beefed up 8950 tube that Maco had GE redesign(that is the rare Maco 300,1x4). and i was told, never did it, you can run all 8950 tubes as well, slightly cheaper tube,(m2057 900vdc, 8950 800vdc) May not last as long either, depends on how you run the amp.
