MACO VQ3

I had a V Quad in the early 90's. Before that, the only "beam" I ever had was 3 element Yagis for 6 and 10. I had the V Quad set for vertical. I had good luck with it as I was able to work dudes near me that my vertical struggled. Darn thing was awkward to manhandle. I have room for something like this, but I'd go with a traditional quad before this, unless I scored one cheap.

Never knew it existed. I had a V-Quad before. It was a decent antenna.

Myself & a friend of mine had a regular set of the Original Wilson V-Quads when I was a teen & they sucked badly. My Starduster & Super Scanner both kicked their butt.I gave mine to my friend & he stacked them & they still sucked.I was working the world on my Starduster & Super Scanner & he could hardly make any DX contacts. Both of us were running a D&A Phantom & almost the same output power.I think he tool them down & threw them in the trash before all was said & done & he went & purchased a Starduster as well.

I actually had decent results with mine. I could barely talk to a friend with my vertical. The V-quad allowed me to work him easily. It did seem to suffer with contacts in the local vicinity, though. My friend lived about 30 miles away.

I've changed my vQuad order. May be 2 months (turns out not in stock but special order) but I went to VQ3 so I will answer my own question in time.

Found some pics of this VQ3. Seems fairly rare so far but those that have it seem extremely happy with it and compare to a comet or 4 element mc104. Most of the trash talkers seem to have never owned one so....
