Mag mount Wilson 2000 Trucker -vs- Wilson 5000

I got back into C.B. without doing my "homework" first. I'm running a 40 channel AM/SSB C.B. in my mobile with a 5" magnet mount (center of car roof) with a Wilson 2000 Trucker (center load and 49" whip). Overall, I'm digging the performance I get from it.

Lately, I've read multiple positive reviews of the Wilson 1000/5000 base load with 62" whip, and its got me wondering. I'm not ready to drill a hole in my car and I frequently park near the ghetto for work so I must stick with a magnet mount...for now.

I gathered that a center load antenna is more efficient than a base load antenna. I gathered that longer whips rx and tx better than shorter ones. Would there be any difference between running a 62" Wilson 1000/5000 (base load) magnet mount, center of roof, or continuing to run my Wilson 2000 Trucker with 10" shaft and 49" whip on its 5" magnet mount?

Any difference you will see going from a base load Wilson 1000/5000 to a trucker central load Wilson 2000/5000 is insignificant. More efficient, yes. Enough to make a difference that you and those you talk to will notice, no.

Also, magnet mounts aren't the only easily removable antennas around. The Wilson base loaded line of antenna will simply screw out of the mount they are attached to. The K40 line does the same, only leaving the mount outside of the vehicle and not the entire antenna.

If you have a standard bolt on stud they make quick release mounts as well so any antenna that attaches to the stud can be removed in seconds. This includes the 102" whip and anything that attaches to a standard stud...

To say you have to use a magnet mount to have a removable antenna is not true... A friend of mine works at a place he has to park in a parking garage and disconnects his 102" whip with a quick release mount when he gets there every day and puts it back on when he leaves... He does drive a van so the whip fits inside... I use a 102" whip on my SUV with the same quick release mount, although I don't disconnect it very much, usually only when I put it in my garage when there is a big storm in the area or if I bring it in to a shop to get work done...

10-4, thanks for the info. I'll save my money until I'm in the mood to drill and install a roof mount detachable mount. Thanks again!

center load is suppose to be better . but dont know if the difference will be noticed
i find on my mini van a centerload works as good as a base loaded antenna, and
its also a few inches shorter too. eery setup will be different though. if you like it id leave it be
