I talked to a shop owner today and he recommended I get a RM over a Magnetic. I just hate to have a hole drilled in my roof. What do yall think?

Universal Radio in Reynoldsburg, Ohio has the best price on a Wilson 1000.

Wilson CB Antennas

The last 2 that I bought from there were USA made. They are now a Chicom product. I would try them first, hopefully they still have some older stock left.

The new Barjan made Wilson's suck.

Right on! That is fine price and a much appreciated tip. Chicom and Barjan? I am not familiar with this. What if I get a Barjan and not a Chicom? Will I be hosed?

Wilson used to be made in in the good old USA. A company called Barjan bought them out and supposedly, the Wilson line is now made in China. Chicom= Communist China.

There is a good thread on here that talks about the recent buyout a difference in quality. It's a good read.

I have run nothing but mag mounts on my company cars for years now, works great. I also ran a Wilson 5000 mag mount in the center of the roof on my X-cab truck years ago. The biggest amp I have run is a Texas Star 667.

All that said, if you can go with a direct mount then yes you will be better off as far as grounding and ground plane. If that's not an option though a Wilson 1000 mag will work great.

I would be carefull pulling the trigger on any Wilson product. the company that owns them now is D.A.S., I was informed by them earlier this year that they will be manufactured in the us again. The last time I talked with them I was told that all of the wilson's stock was being transfered in shipping containers to their U.S. facility......

This is what I was told, And I do not know how true it was.

D.A.S, that's correct. I had Barjan on the brain.

Reason I mentioned Universal Radio is that many people don't realize that they sell certain CB related items. My last Wilson came from them this past fall.

It was U.S made and must've been on the shelf for awhile. If'n you call them they will pull the unit and check for you.

I doubt you'll find any cheaper vendor. I have steered many people their way on CB antennas. Definitely cheaper than truck stops.

I live 35 miles from them and have been a customer since the early 70's.

I like to check their prices first, then if I'm ordering anything over $100, I'll have HRO price comp it and get free shipping and no tax.

Which thread was that? I forget.

That's great! I am glad you were able to locate an older model. I would hold onto that as long as possible. But with the recient problems I have had with them I will never go back to using them. The sirio is all that I will use now.

Shame really.

If you don't mind putting a hole in the roof of your ride, through the roof mounts are the best. If the roof isn't perfectly flat where you want to place the mount and back plate, you'll bend up the roof.
I am perfectly happy with my Grant XL, Davemade M80, Davemade 400, and my Lil Will mag mount antenna.
