that depends on the mike ya were using.Carl said:there not very loud, there lower powered. quality is so-so. they lose alot of there versitility when you convert them (no more offset abilitys). they a pain to turn on and make go into cb channels again. converting them is pretty easy now as they added a jumper to the new models. you turn them on they always revert to 10m frequencys. you press the func key than hold the call key for 3 seconds and it converts to cb use again.
they are the old syle magnums, they have been around for years. are they worth the price? a used 2950 for the same price would be a better radio hands down. there small and they look nice. there cheap but even fully tuned they sound pretty wimpy.

I've done a lot of searches on the 257, and that's what I keep reading about. I know they're not audio monsters, but I just don't want to replace one noisy radio with another one. I wish I knew someone locally that had one, so I could try it out to see if I can live with it.undertaker said:My 257 does not have a noise problem thats kinda wierd...
Bobby
But Richard at 8541 electronics tuned it years ago...
I had a midland 79-290 mounted in the dash, and took it out because of noise, but the magnum will fit in the same spot perfectly. For the time being, I'm using a Grant XL, just leave it on the passenger seat, lol. There's no where to mount a radio in my vehicle, except in the dash, under the stereo. It's a 95 toyota 4runner with a moon roof(no ceiling mount) and 5 speed(no under dash or hump mount).Butcher318 said:What radio do you have now?
