not for me , it drifts . if i got a export id be interested in either a 29xx a omegaforce45hp or a 257hp . not to mention the s9-175 is way above my budget .

why do people want these when theres so many good stable used ham rigs on the market? i love my ft990 base and ts50 mobile and could never go back to a cb

Do you have the TS50 opened up on Transmit?? If so, how do you find that radio in the mobile?
yes
in a word awesome! the best sounding receive audio ive heard from any mobile and ive had a ft100d ic706iig ft857 and even use to run a ft101e mobile. it also has an excellant noise blanker

That's a good question and I think the answer is that there are a lot of CB/export operators who want a screaming loud AM radio with echo, talkback that can also do well on SSB when they need it. They are willing to overlook a small amount of drift for that compromise. There are a lot of the 50% AM/50 % SSB operators in CB still and that really drives the market for these types of radios.

For the more serious SSB operator who rarely makes their way to channels 6,11,28 a used Ham radio might be the better choice. One of the reasons I decided to do a review on the Icom-718.

rf limited 2018 xtreme on either one, turn down the watts and a little modulator in line to drive the tx500 and they keep up with all that loud cb gear on am but the 6kc am filter is needed

The average buyer for these radio is looking for something more like a CB and less like a ham radio. These buyers are the reason these types of models exist in the export market.

why?
the prices for a basic single stage receiver that isnt even stable is as much as many used ham rigs that sound better and do more. i guess they just dont know

some folks just don't wanna be hams . don't wanna have to be concerned about some blowhard telling them they ain't talking right , or maybe dont want their personal info so easily available to anyone that hears them .

huh?

its all about having the best radio with the best receiver and sound not anything to do with studying to go get some license

It's all about what the customer prefers. There are plenty of hams who run older radios and won't buy a newer rig because they prefer the easy to use nature of the older radios. Most truckers and many general CB hobbyist aren't looking for menu driven radios or radios that cover multiple bands.
