I just got an S9-175. I like it. Drifts? slightly, but I find the counter actually drifts more. I use if for general 10M use, as well as CB use. It's strictly for base operation.
But then, I also possess a 2510, a 2600, a Superstar SS158EDX, a General Grant, an RCI-Ranger 69FFC2, a Magnum OmegaForce S45HP, an OPTIMA, and the S9-175. Why all these? It's a running gag between myself, and my buddy Mike, VA3MPM, to see who can own the most "export" radios. So far we're even, (I have the OPTIMA, he has the AT-5555 variants). Only the Optima is mobile, all the rest are set up on a separate desk, with a shelf to hold all these radios. I have two 4-position antenna switches to switch them. The other three desks hold, 1) my "modern" station, an FT-990, FT-1000D, FT-101E, plus various 6M, 2M all mode radios, 2M FM, etc. 2) Boat-anchors: a DX-100 transmitter, an Apache, a Johnson Ranger 1, plus various receivers, and 3) more boat-anchors, more receivers, plus the station controls to my "big-rigs".
For 12-10M mobile use, I use the OPTIMA. Love it. Very flexible, decent power, but it's not an AM screamer, though it does have decent AM audio. The guys up on 29.000 MHz AM like it. It's my "dual-use" radio. It sometimes drives a
Magnum TX2000 amp (to about 200~ Watts or so). In the mobile I also have the Yaesu FT857D, for general HF use, as well as VHF. I also have a Yaesu FT-1802 for 2M use. It's mounted right in the dash, while the Optima is mounted on a Panavise MDT pedestal, with the '857's head.
