Looking at the MFJ 10m folded dipole. Anyone have any thoughts or experience with this antenna? Would like to know a few things about it....
Thanks.....Frank

Pay attention to the power rating 200 watts PEP....
More like 100w....the way MFJ power ratings normally work....
You could build your own for about half that....
For a few bucks more build one that would handle a KW....

Folded dipoles work well, but remember at best 3db over a normal dipole at same height...
Don't try to work other bands you'll smoke the feedpoint transformer most likely even at reduced power
All the Best

Gain

Thanks Gary for info on Gain, more than I thought it would be. Don't need any more wattage rating. Know of a good instruction to build one? Have been looking but could use more ideas.

3 db over a standard dipole????? Can't wait to hear that one explained.

In theory the gain of a standard dipole is the same as that of a folded dipole. In practice there may be very slight differences of a few tenths of a dB due to slightly higher efficiency of the folded dipole.Commercial users of folded dipoles, especially in the VHF range, can obtain 3-5 dB gain in one direction when the folded dipole is spaced the proper distance from a metal support mast however. I suspect this may be the confusion over the perceived gain figure.
