Looking at MFJ-815D for $90 for my CB setup. Does 300w and 3K supposedly with PEP and AVG switch..

Anyone have suggestions for under or about $100 for cross cross needle model that does PEP and AVG?

I just want simple. Had a Workman 201 that supposedly did Peak but was pretty much defective out of the box and wasn't cross needle. Sent that back.

Using A99 as antenna and TS350 occasionally. With Cobra 148..

Would like this to be in line after the TS350..

Ok, you're asking Simple and in the same Breath PEP and AVG...

SIGH...

There are also other considerations...

The Diawa shown, is 90 degree deflection...

Others have 120 degree - even 180 degree deflection...

It's is how "scrunched-up" you wish to have the details - some Meters also are not linear in their representation of scale.

So you have more choices to make decisions on, than you know...

The MFJ815 doesn't really show below 10w to easily.. since it 300w or 3000w.. no 30w option..

The Daiwa 501H does 15/150/1500. So I could do low 1-15w for stock radio checking and then 150 in 10w increments, etc..

From what I understand no meter can read PEP only peak power.
Peak envelope power occurs so fast that no meter could respond fast enough.
Only true way to show pep in on a scope.

Personally I use one of these -

Its acturate and very easy to read.

The only time I use the meter is

a.) tuning the rig for the band( its a tubed rig and requires retuning when changing bands)
b.) tuning the antenna (if running a band I don't have a wire up for)

When actually talking I have the meter off, I only look at the ALC meter on the radio. If something should change I would see it there. I want the ALC meter to barely move when talking.
