I've been offered one for a good price, but what's the difference between the regular 880 and the 880B?

The "880" is older. Probably close to 50 years old. The "B" is not much newer, only a couple of years.

As for the technical differences inside, that's some research that calls for the proper Sams' books.

So, just what's a "good" price for radio that will need dozens of electrolytic caps replaced?

Just curious.

You are going to need one of these to start;

Mike's got ya' covered!

Still, it's a bit like asking the value of car that old. If all the original belts, hoses, gaskets and seals have to be replaced it's a lot less than for an item that has had all that stuff done to it already. I don't know just who would be the expert in prices for stuff that needs to be overhauled. Ebay is no help. Sellers ask overhauled price for derelict barn-find radios. I'd have to say it's worth what you can get.

I think you have missed my point as I asked what THE DIFFERENCE WAS between the two. I'm not on here to debate old vs new caps as I rebuild and recap radios all the time, in fact I just redid a cobra 139 xlr and two midland 13 895s. I also don't need a sales plug on cap kits as I buy them in bulk and make my own.. Good day to both of you.
