Midland 75-822 mod

no this is not a sideband radio, if you want sideband on a handheld there is pretty much only one option, the cherokee ah-100, magnum 1012, albrecht ae2990 and a few others, all pretty much the same radio.
ssb is just a method of transmission, same channels as the regular 40 although with just a regular CB radio, SSB transmissions will sound like donald duck, and be illegible. basically, SSB gets out alot further with less power, if you want to learn more Single-sideband modulation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

On the 75-822 and Cobra HH-45, the H and L channels are extra bands of 40 channels, the L is 40 more channels below channel 1, and the H is 40 channels above channel 40, it can also do 40 channels above the 40 channels above ch.1
so the regular US 40 channels are from 26.965-27.405 mhz, the H channels from 27.415 to 27.855 and then 27.865 to 28.305. The L channels are from 26.515 to 26.965.

The extra channels are actually pretty useless for a handheld.
Some truckers run below channel 1, and some DX in AM mode, but mostly spanish is all you hear.
Above channel 40 is almost entirely DX, in SSB mode. The HH-45 and 75-820 will only work on AM mode.
The only real advantage extra channels are to find a nice quite channel that most people with regular 40 channel radios cant go to.
Right now we are at the peak of the solar cycle, "skip" happens most every day. Good luck finding any quite channel, and on a bad day the noise that rolls in will drown the weak signal from the handheld radio out so bad you be lucky to get a mile range out of them.
After around 9 or 10 pm the skip goes away, might be useful if your batman.
Good time to sell it and buy a VHF or UHF walky talky if you want to get any real range.
Or hold on to it, some people might be figuring out the useless of a handheld CB radio during the peak of solar cycle, put it away for a few years until the sunspots die down then you have a nice radio with a 3 to 5 mile range.

The truth is that many truckers use the L &H to get away from normal garbage on ch 19 in the USA

I AM A ROCK N ROLL trucker... I move the shows from place to place and if you've ever been to a big concert an seen all the pretty trucks behind The stage... Chance are ... I was there.

WE use the H & L ch s we are not bothered by Normal AM radio traffic when we move the trucks.

We move on the radio. The Lead driver commands all moves and steers the truck back to the stage or dock.

It is a blend of all my skill and trust for the voice on the radio. It says go left ... I go left... Go right... I go right

This has worked great for years. We put trucks into places that the normal un seasoned drive could never do on his own with out direction

We move 10..20...30 trucks in and out With a military style precision that is rather cool to watch

For all we do.... We need a place to do it ... Some place above or below 40 AM

We do some crazy stuff in the tightest spots with out a scratch

That's why

As of this date, Bell's CB still sell the Midland 75-822 (not 75-820) with the option of having it 'tuned' along with with the 120 channel modification. I am curious if these are the current 2014/2015 stock of models. They're even selling them on eBay with the 120 channel mod.

If they are, that tells me that the Midland 75-822 is still able to be modified as of late 2015. Personally I'd be more interested in having ALL band plan channel settings much like the Alan 42 but with the US band plan included.

I recently picked up a couple of these for work and they appear to be the same production run as what is being offered online by the majority of sellers.

It would be nice if someone can publish them. Every time I've done a search for one, all I get is results from 2008/2010/2011 pertaining to the older models.

Hi. I have a 822 rev 2 that I want to put U/L into and I can't find any schematics to show me where to jump. I see older post but no good links or photos

Disclaimer: I am not familiar with these radios.

Perhaps you could compare the schematic (if around) from both p.c. board revisions and cross reference the mod of the older board, to corresponding locations on the newer board.

Not to be rude. But why not just get a radio with Channel banks that will do what you want without having to hack up a good radio? Just saying. You can get Galaxy radios or many others for cheap these days if you look around some. Probably for about the same cost as one of the radios you are trying to mod. Just some food for thought. Again, not trying to be rude, just more realistic about things. Have a good one.

if you only want a AM radio the possibility of the radios with channels is unlimited. I just bought a superstar 121 that has upper and lowers and you can find them fairly cheap used on some site's. I just bought one for 31.00 shipped that has the protection diode blown on it. just do not get in a hurry to buy some thing

Happy holidays everybody, sorry to hijack an old thread, but I received a 75-822 radio with the rev-2 board in it, I would love to do the channel mod, but once again as everyone else has stated, the videos are all in spanish, very blurry, and cant find information matching the boards in these. Any help would be appreciated, ( The rude comments on "why not just leave it alone and get a real radio" can be left out. ) The whole point of this hobby is to have fun with it, expand your mind and play with these different radios regardless if its pointless or not! Its fun. So any info would be greatly appreciated. 73

I have taken it apart. And the board is similar but the points are different. Tomorrow I will snap a pic of mine and put it next to the pic of the 820 I keep finding. So close but my solder pads are all over the place. Could be anything I believe bellsCB sells the 75-822 and has the option to modify them, so there has to be a way

this is the last mod I have ever found on the radio in question. this is like the mods for the new uniden 880 and 980 mods. no one will share the mod with the web since they are in business to make money and will not share the mod.

after another search I found this info about the 75-822 radio. shows the mod at the bottom of the page with a picture. take a look at it.
