I liked the Predator 10K myself, I had the single coil, 27" shaft, and mounted it on the back side of a toolbox in the back of the truck I had, and the coil was 8" above the top of the cab, worked alot of DX on that antenna, those Predator antennas, are hard to beat..
Whip, Predator27, Skipshooter(6ft)...

Yeah people discussing it on their FB page lol. I think its retarded if you ask me. I always thought having electric around an antenna wasn't a good thing. Maybe it amplifies the signal, lol. To each their own I guess. I wouldn't buy it, and not just because of the light.

I voted Predator 10K cuz I talk to 13 countries with mine. I had it mounted on a headache rack on my old pickup. I had the 2 coil job. I did get tired of by-standers asking me where the Aliens were. I still have it around here somewhere. 73
Whenever anyone says something stupid I just tell them its ok, touch it lol. They don't. Couple girls at work said it was a big antenna and I said yes it is LOL. Mind you I work at a gov complex. I just got asked two days ago from a cop in town where i have lived for 13 years now and he said he decided to ask me about it since he was right at my house from road constrcuction going on, and asked if the antenna was legal and if I was running one of those trucker boxes. I told him that the antenna is all legal and that it was a shortened version of the best, a108 inch whip like on police cars long ago, and those trucker things are not for me LOL. He was wondering if it was ham or CB and I said Hammers like the power and extra channels were as a CBer tries to get out with a stock CB raido. I am a CBer. He said he was just curious over all these years but never had a chance to ask. I also got asked a few months ago by a snotty parking cop in town and she mentioned she thought that the cb was for children and i told her besides very helpful information it also has saved lives and helped many in emergency situations and state police use it all the time and I myself have possibly saved two peoples lives who were stuck in a snow storm in the PA mountains and all they had was a cb calling for help and I stopped at a persons house to call both times as their were no cell phones. Her face turned completely red. I asked her if she wanted me to move as I was just waiting for the wife and she just walked away lol.

530 , Like said , I have an older Stryker SRA-10A , No light , Thing is built like a tank & I get nothing but good comments on it . But then again I haven't had a decent antenna since I had the 102" whip on my Toyota Fj-40 , Sooo... ?;):)

Electric ? Well it has a bulb that lights . No Dc voltage required to connect , it's basically like that little bulb that went on the tip of your antenna years ago . I can't remember , was it called a Fire Fly ? Just lit up dimly on transmit .

So once again I was doing some antenna testing with both these antennas and I had the predator on and I was hitting a stationary mobile with a one and a half on his meter and I switch to the skip shooter and I was doing a two. I went back to the predator and was back down to one and a half. At the same time there was also a base station about the same distance only he was much higher than the mobile was and I was doing a 2 with him on both antennas no change.

I have never run a skipshooter, but I’ve been hard pressed to see any consistent differences between a Wilson and a predator in terms of performance. And both see to hang right close with a full length whip.

Personally, I believe that once you’re near 5’ overall length in a quality loaded antenna, it’s not going to get much better. I had a magnet mount hustler about that long that talked right with the wilson.

I’d still like to try a Sirio one day.

your mobile could be a little stronger in on direction. people's S meters are not all the same. the SS may be better. see which one gives you more consistent DX contacts while stationary.

Using DX contacts as any indication of the worth of an antenna is wasting your time. Conditions can change from second to second, I'm sure even you have heard a DX station, watched your S meter and it has been rising and falling as they're talking.

As dledinger said, once you get to 5ft there's little difference between antennas, other than if you go the full 108". The only thing you may benefit from is having one with a loading coil in the middle or the top which raises the current maximum from the base of the antenna higher up and therefore sending out a slightly stronger signal more horizontally but the difference isn't likely to be enough to make or break a contact.

the operative word was consistent

Still not a valid test. You can DX on a dummy load when conditions are good and the only thing testing with DX does is tell you how well your antenna sends your signal up into the clouds to be bounced off the ionosphere which isn't really of much help if your main goal is to get a good antenna to talk to someone 10-20 miles down the road. Only valid test you can do without a proper antenna test range is with test gear so using a RF field strength meter and testing at multiple heights off the ground at a set distance so you not only get an idea of the maximum level of RF being thrown out but at the angle that maximum occurs.
