Mobile Mobile antenna recommendation for 88-98 reg can Chevy truck

Well I started messing with the antenna, I probably trimmed 2 inches off the steel whip 1/4” at a time thinking I could get good swr from ch38 to the tech phone part of 10meters. This thing seems to have very narrow bandwidth.
When I started out I had an swr of 1.6 on 40 and like 1.5 on 1. Now the lowest I can get anywhere, after trimming and messing with the tuning rings for like 3 hours is 1.3 on
I would think that trimming the whip would be getting me better swr higher in frequency.

Not a good location for the mount, not a great bond, either.

That said, the SWR numbers were okay to start with (under 2.00); further reduction was dun fer fun.

RF Bond of hood, doors, cab, bed and exhaust system will help.
