Noticed that both Bobs CB and Bells CB were OOS on the Lincoln II. Figured I’d best not wait any longer, despite some other priorities.

Walcott Radio had them on sale, and with a tweak plus shipping it was just over $300.

So, who is using them while mobile?

With an RM ITALY amp? (Swing mod done with any amp?)

PRESIDENT wireless mic?

Modified stock mic?

Aftermarket mic?

(“Noise” problems of being mobile background to these questions).

Antenna choice where this radio seemed better off?

I’ve read around on this radio the past eighteen months — maybe forgotten half — but looking forward to using it in big truck and pickup.

Used mine (V3 not + version) in the mobile for quite a while. Worked excellent, I turned it down and ran it with a 2 pill and also with a KL203 at one point. The stock mic was really noisy on the road in my rig so I went with the Road Devil and got really good results and that's why I recommend it for mobile for the noise cancelling. The stock mic can sound really good with that radio but the Road Devil has a little fuller sound to it, not really louder than the stock mic maybe a tad.

Didn't like the wireless mic audio with it compared to the stock mic or Road Devil.

Internal speaker isn't particularly loud - I found I was cranking the volume too high to hear it in my noisy environment so I went with an external speaker. ANL NB work ok for RX noise but I turn down the RF gain slightly as the RX static can be a bit noisy on these, but they receive really well even with the RF gain down slightly.

Thank you for that summary of experience.

I have a Road Devil, need to get NOS previous-generation switch installed.

I’d already bought the PRESIDENT Liberty EU-spec wireless mic. Figure there may be a day I’m walking around and want to use the CB as well. Etc. Versatility.

A KL-203 is what I have. Would like to match up a KL-7405v, but have been unable to find one in the last year. Others are attractive, but size & space in a big truck (not mine) precludes some choices. The pickup has a 7505v where mount space is easier.

A second WEST MOUNTAIN RADIO CLEARSPEECH DSP Speaker is now at top of my Buy List. I’ve picked up two (2) bhi products for the speaker: an RF/Ground Loop Isolator last year, and a line level attenuator tonight. MIX 61 ferrites didn’t hurt either.

The Uniden 980 I have was favorably affected with this approach (speaker isolation) as to its receive. Cleared the underbrush in the forest of noise, so to speak.

I recall your advice about backing RF Gain down a bit. Mobile, I don’t think will ever compete for sensitivity with a base antenna, so I’m glad to hear (again) what would be my first inclination re extraneous noise: back it off.

It is my hope that “. . they receive really well” also becomes my assessment. It’s what sold me (Dan; 2NC995) as of a year ago last summer.

My big truck has antenna limits, it’s with my pickup that I hope to get the lowest noise background so that a mobile antenna can shine.

Yeah the microphone is a toss up as the Road Devil can sound a little tinny compared to the stock mic but at the same time the Road Devil seems to be a tad clearer/fuller, only way I can explain it. But in my truck the road noise is always a problem and the RD helps me sound louder without the noise.

I tested out mine with the Uniden wireless mic but it didn't match up that great so maybe you'll have better luck with the Liberty.

I have a couple of the lincolns now and I really enjoy them for SSB and have gotten really good reports on them. AM though they won't swing from a low deadkey if you're trying to run it with an amp. I just did an NPC mod on one and it gives the AM swing for pairing with an amplifier (that requires low input). They aren't particularly loud on AM even with the NPC mod.

Here's some audio - yours may sound completely different when set up - SSB is where the radios really shine.

That UR6QW audio sounds absolutely bloody horrific, it's over-driven with the compression wound up too high or it's over-driving the radio. That is far from what communications audio should sound like.

Here's what you want to be aiming for....and yes you can achieve it on SSB too.

That test was part of a longer video where I did explain I had things cranked up - I've taken to testing things out with mike gains at maximum etc - people don't need to run them that high obviously but it's kind of like the old days of turning your stereo up as loud as you could to know where it would distort :)

I definitely don't recommend running things like that but if I run them low for tests people always say "that's quiet it sucks, turn it up" so I go extreme to show how loud it can be. For example I had the Road Devil set to 50% in that test, I've never turned it up that high personally while using it. :)

The UR6QW can sound absolutely amazing and can add a huge amount of punch on SSB.

Lincoln 2+ V3

The Bad:

--VFO skips

--With some mics, radio will back up one channel.

--Voltage High flashing on display--Voltage is correct and radio shows correct voltage--Full reset in menu fixes the problem. Some kind of firmware bug, but I don't know the trigger. I do think it has something to do with saving to memory.

--Channel buttons are not for big fingers.

--Puff sounding microphone--Talk across it, and it works very good with good modulation.

The Good:

--Good ears.

--SSB is good.

--AM sounds good to me...just not booming loud as some other radios.
