Any moped/scooter riders here....what kind do you have...and what kind do you reccomend as far as best made ?
I have been thinking about getting a scooter.....a 50cc to get around town n and joyride......the good gas mpg and no insurance and no plate just a 3 yr sticker sounds good to me.

dunno what state you are in, but, in my state they are not legal on any public road or highway.

I would never be caught dead riding one. YMMV

I used to ride a Yamaha Riva 180 to and from work. Nice riding scooter, great mileage, and a 4-stroke engine. Before that I had a Lambretta 150. Sold it for twice what I paid for it new! The Lambretta was a 2-stroke. Very easy to work on which was good, because I put a LOT of work into it!

They are legal here in Michigan....not on a freeway or interstate under 50cc i think....but in town and on side roads.
I like em....and my ego does not depend on weather i am riding a scooter or a big bike....i like that they run so cheap.......also a lot of gay leather daddys ride nothing but HDs....since you took it there.

Yeah, bought it in about 1970 (it was a '68 model, "Li 150 Series 3".
Sort of the same design as Vespa, but Vespas were/are better put together. I almost went with a Vespa rather than the Yamaha when I moved up, but not having to shift gears was the selling point. The Riva used the same transmission as the Yamaha ski scooters - basically a centrifugal clutch like in the old Craftsman scooters from the '40s and '50s.

Are the Aprilia scooters any good Beetle?
A guy offered to trade me a 125 riva for a fender strat i have......but it had a lot of miles on it...so i passed.

Kymco's are the brand I see mostly pooting around here being ridden by pre-pubescent males with no helmet. Funny that MI allows such a dangerous little vehicle on the road yet I'd get a ticket for driving my F-150 on the same road if I'm not wearing a seat belt. Go figure the logic there.

I don't think any state forbids them. Some states just have different requirements and restrictions.

that's what I said

TN statute 55-8-101. "... A motorized bicycle may not be operated on a highway, any limited access multilane divided highway, or upon sidewalks."

Yeah...i don't think i would want to ride a scooter or a motorcycle in the big city where its heavy traffic...around here its pretty laid back.....just a small college town...with lots of nice country roads to ride.....you cannot beat a 100 mpg .

I don't know anything about Aprilia. Looked at pictures of some models. It sounds like Aprilia is about like Yamaha and Honda were like 3 or 4 decades ago: primarily motorcycles but with a few scooter units for those who preferred them. If you can find a Honda Helix in decent shape with under maybe 50k miles, that might be worth a look. Wouldn't hold my breath, though...
