why do these imbeciles think something rusted and possibly not in really good working order is of any use but still charge three times over what the item is really worth and expect people to buy it Lol these so called antiques are nothing but old and worthless to most rational people. !!!

I'll tell you something my dad told me when I was a kid. We were in his store and I asked him who would buy that old small black and white TV he had on the shelf. His reply was " you can take a shit on a paper plate and let it petrify , Put it in the front window. Sooner or later someone will walk through that door and say " how much for that piece of shit in the window" I laughed and understood at that moment that there is an ass for every seat.

The short answer is; because there are imbeciles willing to pay it.

Because there's a sucker born every minute. I'm guilty of over paying for things, I gave $190 dollars for a "rare vintage" Maddison speaker for my base radio, the next day the same guy had another one for sale same price. I guess it wasn't all that rare apparently! I don't regret it, I wanted to complete my base station setup, he had what I was looking for, so instead of hunting a bargain I had the money and bought it. Like they say the heart wants what the heart wants.
I've wasted more money at the Indian casino and walked out kicking myself, at least with the speaker I've got something to show for my questionable judgment, and it gets put to use.
Yes I'm guilty of being an imbecile, not proud of it, just being honest

The imbeciles are not the ones asking. The imbeciles are the ones paying. The true genius is the one asking a crazy price for a piece of crap and waiting long enough for some imbecile to actually buy it for that price.
Right you are, Captain.
The silly ones are not the eBay sellers with outlandish items and prices, it’s the buyers. Not far behind them are the people wasting time, energy and forum space griping, complaining and calling names. ;)

i agree with abo

agreed. its the stupid idiots that keep buying this stuff. thats the reason these greedy people keep pricing things at rip off prices. dont buy it, then they cant sell it, done. to bad that will never happen. side note, all of these stupid people buying these things are the reason the used market for certain items are just out of control in price. cb radios, perfect example

On another note, how many of us own antique radios and have spent hundreds of dollars on to refurbish and get back on the airwaves? To us they aren't junk, but to most others they are old and worthless. Even a brand new radio is worthless to people not interested in our hobby, they don't see US as rational. Just a thought.

To me, it is a sentimental value.

For some buying any sort of item, being a car, radio, TV or bicycle, it is something tangible to help develop memories which are experiences in our lives we decide to keep - to cherish or revere as an opportunity.

Sure, I could only own one radio - but with the plethora of experiences I've had over the repairs, uses or just plain get togethers generated by talking on it - makes these items have such a sentimental value for others whom remember their days of using one, and losing it - becomes the memoirs for others...

No matter the price as long as the Buyer & Seller are happy it's nobody's business except their's Do you want others deciding what you pay or sell any item for & not just radio gear? I may think they are Crazy but it's still none of my business. We have more than enough Karen's in the world as it is so we don't need any more.
