Best advice is to disregard pretty faces and look for something solid.
Mine ticks along as expected.
Rough roads in a big truck.
i got my YAHOO back from the yahoo shop. Sorta works on base but was told my voice sounds bad.put it in my pickup n went 28 mikes to buy stuff.intermod so bad squelch full up n noise comes in over squelch. They said we fixed it installed new ribbon cable. It went in for bad modulation n intermod trouble. Trip 5 is coming . Fedex has had this p.o.s.more than i have.I put Yaesu in the same category
got newest and older version. I agree screen view is crap, old 1 is growing dim newer 1 is ok.I heard good reports, and broke my rule of never paying over $100 for a CB, especially given decent used amateur radios that outclass high dollar CBs can be had for less money.
My first disappointment came with how extremely difficult it is to see the ked display in a mobile setup. Sunshine just washed it out.
Then I found I disliked all the menu options crowded into the channel knob. Yet, I enjoyed the good reports I initially got from it. It seemed to mate well with the small kicker I occassionally used.
Then real issues began. Part time display devolving into no display. Then wattage fading away to nothing.
So, it looks best mounted in my trash can. I did save the mic, power cord, and mounting bracket.
I forgot to mention that the noise in the receive rivaled that of a Cobra 19 radio. It wasn't just mobile. I hooked it up on the base antenna with the same results.
The AM was bad, but, uncharacteristically, the SSB was worse. It was not alternator whine, nor was it ignition bleed over. Just pure dee old intolerable white noise. I expected much more from a Uniden, but . . .
Again, not disputing anyone's experience with the radio, just saying...
It's quiet now.
I have noticed that same white noise on mine on both am &SSB while using it as a base station, fortunately I keep the volume low and have it hooked up to a noise cancelling ext. Speaker, seems to help a little bit!!I forgot to mention that the noise in the receive rivaled that of a Cobra 19 radio. It wasn't just mobile.
